Joe Jones (tight End)
Joseph Jones (born June 26, 1962) is a former American football tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Indianapolis Colts. He also was a member of the Pittsburgh Gladiators in the Arena Football League (AFL). He played college football at Virginia Tech. Early years Jones attended Forest Hills High School, where he practiced football, basketball and track. He accepted a football scholarship from Virginia Tech. He began his college career as a backup tight end, playing mainly on special teams. As a sophomore, he had 3 receptions for 40 yards. As a senior, he became a starter at tight end, leading the team with 39 receptions for 452 yards and one touchdown. Professional career Dallas Cowboys Jones was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 10th round (270th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft. He was waived in August. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. 1985 NFL Draft
The 1985 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. The draft was held April 30 and May 1, 1985, at the Omni Park Central Hotel in New York City, New York. The league also held a supplemental draft after the regular draft and before the regular season. The first six selections of the draft made at least one Pro Bowl, and three of the first 16 picks — Bruce Smith, Chris Doleman, and Jerry Rice — have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
