Joe Holliday
Joseph John Holliday, (born 26 September 1958) is a former Gibraltarian people, Gibraltarian politician and member of the Gibraltar Social Democrats. He served as Gibraltar's Minister for Tourism and Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Trade and Enterprise with responsibility for economic development until the 2011 Gibraltar general election, 2011 general election, with Peter Caruana as Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Chief Minister. Holliday failed to obtain a seat at the Gibraltar Parliament at this election. He was also chairman of Gibtelecom, AquaGib and Gibraltar Electricity Authority. Gibraltar Social Democrats
The Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD) is a liberal-conservative, centre-right political party in Gibraltar. The GSD was the governing party for four successive terms in office under the leadership of Peter Caruana, from the 1996 general election until the party's electoral defeat in the 2011 election by the GSLP–Liberal Alliance. On 30 November 2017, the party underwent their second leadership election as its leader, Daniel Feetham, resigned in July. Gibtelecom is the largest telecommunications provider in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. Its headquarters is located on John Mackintosh Square. History The first telephones were introduced to Gibraltar in 1886 by a private company which was later taken over by the colonial authorities. Since 1926, the telephone service was operated by the City Council. Upon the approval of the 1969 Constitution and the dissolution of the City Council, the telephone service was transferred to the newly formed Government of Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Parliament is the legislature of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. Between 1969 and 2006, it was called the Gibraltar House of Assembly. Functions The House of Assembly, set up under the 1969 constitution, was a unicameral body originally consisting of 15 members elected by the Gibraltar electorate, plus two appointed members including the Attorney-General. Sir Peter Richard Caruana, (born 15 October 1956) is a Gibraltarian former politician who served as Chief Minister of Gibraltar from 1996 to 2011 and Leader of the Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD) from 1991 to 2013.
