Joe Clarke (canoeist)
Joseph Clarke, (born 3 November 1992) is a British slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009, specializing in the K1 (kayak) and KX1 (extreme kayak/kayak cross) events. He is the 2016 Olympic champion in the K1 event, a double World champion in the kayak cross discipline, and has won medals at World and European Championships. Early life Clarke was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. He first tried canoeing during a trip with The Scout Association at the age of eight. He then applied to join the Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, but was rejected for being too young. He was given the chance to reapply through his middle school's canoeing club during year six at Walton Priory Middle School, but as they only had eight places available which were greatly oversubscribed he was required to write a letter to demonstrate why he deserved a place. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The 2014 ICF World Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Penrith, Australia from 23 to 27 April 2014 under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium. It was the 16th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 3rd edition for the Under 23 category. No medals were awarded for the men's U23 C2 team event and the women's junior and U23 C1 team events due to low number of participating nations. The men's junior C2 team event did not take place. 2013 World Junior And U23 Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2013 ICF World Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia from 17 to 21 July 2013 under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) at the Ondrej Cibak Whitewater Slalom Course. It was the 15th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 2nd edition for the Under 23 category. No medals were awarded for the men's U23 C2 event due to the fact that it did not meet the criteria for a medal event. In an Olympic event there need to be at least 6 countries from 3 continents represented to count as a world championship event. 2021 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2021 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place from 6 to 9 May 2021 in Ivrea, Italy under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 22nd edition of the competition. Ivrea hosted the event for the first time. The extreme canoe slalom events made their debut at the European Championships (formerly known as Extreme K1). The 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 37th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 15 to 20 September 2015 in London, United Kingdom, under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF), at the Lee Valley White Water Centre facility, which was also the venue for the canoe slalom events at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 36th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from September 17 to 21, 2014 at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, United States (Western Maryland near Pittsburgh) under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF), at the Adventure Sports Center International facility. The Deep Creek bid was selected by the ICF Board of Directors on April 15, 2011 in Paris. The other bids were by Vienna and Kraków. In total there were 10 events of which 9 were medal events. The women's C1 team event did not count as a medal event due to insufficient number of participating federations.
