Joe Carter (end)
William Joe Carter (July 23, 1909 – December 22, 1991) was an American football end. He played for 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), from 1933 to 1940 for the Philadelphia Eagles, in 1942 for the Green Bay Packers, 1944 for the Brooklyn Tigers, and 1945 for the Chicago Bears. Carter graduated North Dallas High School and attended West Virginia University (WVU). Dalhart, Texas
Dalhart is a city in Dallam and Hartley counties in the U.S. state of Texas, and the county seat of Dallam County. The population was 7,930 at the 2010 census. History Founded in 1901, Dalhart is named for its location on the border of Dallam and Hartley Counties; its name is a portmanteau of the names of the two counties. The city was founded at the site of a railroad junction, which heavily contributed to its early growth. Dalhart was in the center of the Dust Bowl, an area adversely affected by a long period of drought and dust storms during the Great Depression of the 1930s. An end in American and Canadian football is a player who lines up at either end of the line of scrimmage, usually beside the tackles. Rules state that a legal offensive formation must always consist of seven players on the line of scrimmage and that the player on the end of the line constitutes an eligible receiver. Before the advent of two platoons, in which teams fielded distinct defensive and offensive units, players that lined up on the ends of the line on both offense and defense were referred to simply as "ends". The position was used in this sense until roughly the 1960s.
