Yarrawonga, Victoria
Yarrawonga is a town in the Shire of Moira local government area in the Australian state of Victoria. The town is situated on the south bank of the Murray River, the border between Victoria and New South Wales, and is located approximately north-east of the state capital, Melbourne. Yarrawonga's twin town of Mulwala is on the other side of the Murray River. At the , Yarrawonga had a population of 7,930. Yarrawonga is served by a standard gauge branch railway, which branches off the Melbourne-Sydney line at Benalla and terminates at Oaklands in New South Wales. Tungamah Football Club
The Tungamah Football Netball Club Inc, nicknamed the Bears, is an Australian Rules football club playing in the Picola & District Football League. The club is based in the small Victorian town of Tungamah, a town of just 300 people located approximately 250 km north of Melbourne. The earliest recorded match involving Tungamah was a game against Lake Rowan on Saturday, 29 July 1882. In 1883 there was also a Murray District Football Club based in Tungamah. Tungamah FC joined the Benalla Tungamah Football League in 1938. The club changed leagues following an administration disagreement between the AFL Goulburn-Valley and the Picola & District Football League in 2019, but returned to the P&DFL for season 2021. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990.
