Joe Behan
Joe Behan (born 30 July 1959) is an Irish politician. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wicklow constituency from 2007 to 2011. He was elected as a TD at the 2007 general election. A former teacher and primary school principal from Bray, Behan was a long-serving member of Bray Town Council and Wicklow County Council, winning and holding his seat at the 1999 and 2004 local elections. He was Cathaoirleach (chairman) of Wicklow County Council from 2006 to 2007, but in accordance with the abolition of the dual mandate under the Local Government Act 2001 he was deemed to have resigned his council seats when elected to the Dáil in 2007. Behan unsuccessfully sought the Fianna Fáil nomination to contest the 1997 general election in the Wicklow constituency. The 2014 Irish local elections were held in all local government areas of the Republic of Ireland on Friday, 23 May 2014, on the same day as the European Parliament election and two by-elections ( Dublin West and Longford–Westmeath). The 30th Dáil was elected at the 2007 general election on 24 May 2007 and met on 14 June 2007. The members of Dáil Éireann, the house of representatives of the Oireachtas (legislature) of Ireland, are known as TDs. Stephen Donnelly (born 14 December 1975) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who has served as Minister for Health since June 2020. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wicklow constituency since 2011. On his election to Dáil Éireann, Donnelly first sat as an Independent deputy. He then co-founded the Social Democrats in 2015, becoming joint leader of the new party. He left the Social Democrats in 2016, and represented Wicklow as an independent before joining Fianna Fáil in February 2017. Education and career Donnelly is a graduate of University College Dublin (UCD) with a degree in mechanical engineering. He also worked and studied in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2000, Donnelly moved to London, where he worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. Joe Jacob (born 1 April 1939) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. Jacob was born in Kilrush, County Clare in 1939. He was educated at De La Salle in Wicklow and Terenure College in Dublin. He is a former publican and a distribution manager with Nitrigin Éireann Teoranta. Jacob was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the constituency of Wicklow at the 1987 general election. He held his seat at each subsequent election, until retiring at the 2007 general election. He was a member of Wicklow County Council from 1985 to 1997 for the Wicklow area. He was appointed a Minister of State at the Department of Public Enterprise with special responsibility for Energy in 1997, a post he held until 2002. He was not re-appointed to a ministerial position after the 2002 general election. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. Fianna Fáil finished with 38 seats (including one TD returned automatically as outgoing Ceann Comhairle). Sinn Féin made significant gains; it received the most first-preference votes, and won 37 seats, the party's best result since 1923. 2019 Wicklow County Council Election
An election to Wicklow County Council took place on 24 May 2019 as part of the Irish local elections. 32 councillors were elected from six local electoral areas (LEAs) on the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV) for a five-year term of office. In 2014, there were five LEAs each electing between 6 and 8 councillors. Following the recommendations of the Local Area Boundary Committee Report in June 2018, there are now six LEAs each electing between 4 and 6 councillors. The changes were enacted by statutory instrument (S.I.) No. 638/2018. Fine Gael increased their seat numbers by 1 to emerge with 9 seats while Fianna Fáil retained 7 seats overall.
