Joe Bannon
Joseph Bannon (25 April 1894 - 4 February 1975) was an Irish hurler. Usually lining out as a corner-back, he was a member of the Dublin team that won the All-Ireland Championship in 1924 and 1927. Bannon enjoyed a lengthy career as a full-back with the Faughs and Young Irelands clubs in Dublin, winning several championship medals. After being selected for the Dublin senior team in 1923, Bannon was a regular member of the team for much of the next decade. He won his first Leinster medal in 1924 before later winning his first All-Ireland medal after Dublin's defeat of Galway in the final. Bannon won a second set of Leinster and All-Ireland medals in 1927 before winning his third and final provincial title at the age of forty in 1934. Bannon died on 4 February 1975. Faughs GAA Club ( ga, CLG Fág an Bealach) is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) hurling and camogie club in Templeogue, Dublin, Ireland. They have won 31 titles. History Faughs GAA Club was founded in Easter 1885, "under the big tree" in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Its inaugural meeting was held at 4 Gardiner's Row, home of Michael Cusack (now the Dergvale Hotel). The club name, Faughs, is derived from the Irish language slogan, , meaning "clear the way," a battle cry used by ancient Irish warriors. When the Dublin County Board was formed in 1886, Larry O'Toole was on the committee. At this time Faughs, wearing colours amber and black played both hurling and football, took part in the first Dublin championships in 1887, and were winners of the Dublin Senior Football Championship in 1889. Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, usually held on the first Sunday in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Bob O'Keeffe Cup. The championship was previously played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team lost they were eliminated from the championship; however, as of 2018, the championship involved a round-robin system. Young Irelands are a Gaelic Athletic Association Club based in Gowran, County Kilkenny, Ireland. Formed in 1952, they are located on the Chapel Road just outside the village. Their jersey consists of red and white vertical stripes. They are currently managed by Alan Roche. Past managers have included Pat O'Neill and Kevin Fennelly. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1934 was the 48th series of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. The 1924 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 38th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 4 May 1924 and ended on 14 December 1924. The championship was won by Dublin who secured the title following a 5-3 to 2-6 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. The Dublin Senior Hurling Championship ( ga, Craobh Sinsear Iomána Átha Cliath) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Dublin GAA, Dublin County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA) since 1887 for the top hurling clubs in County Dublin, Ireland. Sixteen clubs compete.
