Jodie Murphy
Jodie Murphy is a retired Australian women's basketball player. Biography Murphy played in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) between 1989 and 1995. During that period Murphy played for three teams; Bulleen Boomers (1989), AIS (1990–91) and Canberra Capitals (1992–95) totaling 122 games. In 1992, Murphy won the WNBL Top Shooter Award with 376 points at an average of 17.9 points per game. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Melbourne Boomers
The Melbourne Boomers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The Boomers compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play the majority of their home games at Melbourne Sports Centre – Parkville and the State Basketball Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Deakin Melbourne Boomers. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) competed in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) as a team of the AIS Athletes. They won the WNBL Championship just once, in the 1998–99 WNBL season, led by a young Lauren Jackson. The team continued to compete in the WNBL through the 2011–12 season, but withdrew at the end of that season. AIS were largely uncompetitive in their last years in the WNBL, winning only 29 matches and losing 188 in their final ten WNBL seasons, including a two-season record of 1–41 in 2005–06 and 2006–07. The University of Canberra Capitals are an Australian professional women's basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). The team is based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. In 2014 the University of Canberra Union took control of the Capitals from Basketball ACT. The University of Canberra is the current naming rights sponsor for the Capitals. The WNBL Leading Scorer Award is an annual Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) statistical award given since the 1981 WNBL season. The Leading Scorer is determined by the player with the highest average points per game, throughout the regular season.
