Joanne McNally
Joanne McNally (born 7 May 1983) is an Irish stand-up comedian, writer and actress. She is a native of Killiney, County Dublin. McNally was the co-host of ''Republic of Telly'' for RTÉ and has also appeared on '' The Late Late Show'', ''The Afternoon Show'', ''Ireland AM'', Two Tube and The Commute for RTÉ. She has a weekly agony aunt section on RTÉ 2fm Chris and Ciara show, where she is called 'Dr. Joanne', and her own 'Mack the week' segment on the Eoghan McDermott show on RTÉ 2fm. Joanne co-hosts a podcast called "My Therapist Ghosted Me" with friend Vogue Williams. Career McNally performed in her first stage show ''Singlehood'' in 2014 where she and seven other people stood on stage and told stories about their love lives. It was here she was spotted by comedian PJ Gallagher who brought her into stand-up comedy. Killiney
Killiney () is an affluent seaside resort and suburb in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland. It lies south of neighbouring Dalkey, east of Ballybrack and Sallynoggin and north of Shankill. The place grew around the 11th century Killiney Church, and became a popular seaside resort in the 19th century. It is part of the Dáil Éireann constituency of Dún Laoghaire. Amenities Killiney Hill Park was opened in 1887 as Victoria Hill, in honour of Queen Victoria's 50 years on the British throne. RTÉ2
RTÉ2 is an Irish free-to-air television channel operated by public service broadcaster RTÉ. It was launched in 1978 as the Republic of Ireland's second television channel. History In the 1970s, the Irish government considered three options for the introduction of a second television service: the re-transmission of BBC1 Northern Ireland; authorization of an independent commercial service; or charging RTÉ with the establishment of a second national channel. It was the last of these that was finally chosen. The channel—only the second in the Republic—began transmissions at 20:00 on 2 November 1978, opening with a broadcast of a gala ceremony from Cork Opera House. Owing to a technical error, audio from BBC2 was played during the countdown instead of the proper soundtrack. Project Arts Centre is a multidisciplinary arts centre based in Temple Bar, Dublin, which hosts visual arts, theatre, dance, music, and performance. History Project Arts Centre was founded by Jim FitzGerald and Colm O'Briain in 1967 after a three-week festival at the Gate Theatre in 1966. Project Arts Centre was the first such arts centre in Ireland. The Centre had several homes before it opened for business in a converted factory on East Essex Street in 1975, after numerous issues regarding funding. The Dublin Fringe Festival is an annual curated arts festival in Dublin, Ireland focusing mainly on theatre. The festival allows artists to submit their work via an application which is subsequently reviewed by the programme manager. The festival is open to both Irish and international participants. The festival started in 1980 as a small independent festival over a weekend and expanded into a sixteen-day festival, annually held in September and focuses on new and emerging artists. Cat Laughs
The ''Cat Laughs Comedy Festival'' is a comedy festival held over the first weekend in June each year in Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. It was founded in 1994. History Cat Laughs was envisioned in 1994 by Lynn Cahill who ran Bickerstaffe theatre company in Kilkenny. As a means to expand the companies programme, she considered with her business partner that Kilkenny was great for a festival. After originally planning a choral festival called "Cat Sings", her business partner Richard Cook suggested a comedy festival instead. For the first two editions, no Irish comedian closed the festival due to the audience preferring British comics. The first edition was sponsored by Smithwick's before being sponsored by Murphy's Irish Stout until 2015 when Smithwick's returned. It is traditionally held over the weekend of Pentecost. Funny Women
Funny Women is an online and in-person workshop community dedicated to the support of female comedians. It was founded by Lynne Parker in 2002 as a reaction to misogynistic comments from a comedy promoter. Funny Women helps women find their voice, promote them, and assists charities. During the 2019 Funny Women Awards Final, Funny Women announced that their new Patron (renamed “Matron”), would be Jo Brand. Live events Funny Women runs "Stand Up to Stand Out" comedy workshops hosted by Parker. In 2013, Funny Women hosted the first Workshop Weekend at the women-only business club B.Hive in Covent Garden. So You Think You're Funny? (SYTYF) is an annual stand-up comedy competition for new acts. The competition began in 1988 in the United Kingdom. The finals are held every August at The Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Past winners include Aisling Bea, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Peter Kay and David O'Doherty. History ''So You Think You're Funny'' was the idea of Karen Koren, Artistic Director of The Gilded Balloon, in order to discover new comic talent.
