Joanna, South Carolina
Joanna is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census, down from 1,609 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The community was first settled in the 1760s. By the 1850s, the town was known as "Martin's Depot", in honor of a local planter, Martin Kinard, who had helped bring the Laurens Railroad through. On April 30, 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his cabinet passed through the town on their flight from Richmond and spent the night at the Lafayette Young house, to the southwest. Martin's Depot was renamed "Goldville" in 1872. In 1948 the name of the town was again changed, to "Joanna", the name of the wife of a local industrialist. Greenville-Mauldin-Easley Metropolitan Area
The Upstate is the region in the westernmost part of South Carolina, United States, also known as the Upcountry, which is the historical term. Although loosely defined among locals, the general definition includes the 10 counties of the commerce-rich I-85 corridor in the northwest corner of South Carolina. This definition coincided with the Greenville–Spartanburg–Anderson, SC combined statistical area, as first defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in 2015. Bush River (South Carolina)
The Bush River is a tributary of the Saluda River, 30 mi (48 km) long, in the Piedmont region of western South Carolina in the United States. Via the Saluda and Congaree Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Santee River, which flows to the Atlantic Ocean. According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known as "Bush Creek." The United States Board on Geographic Names settled on "Bush River" as the stream's name in 1973. South Carolina Highway 66
South Carolina Highway 66 (SC 66) is a primary state highway in the state of South Carolina. It serves to connect the community of Joanna with nearby SC 56 and the town of Whitmire. Route description SC 66 is a two-lane rural highway that travels from SC 56 to SC 72 in Whitmire. It connects to U.S. Route 76 (US 76) and Interstate 26 (I-26). Predominantly in the Sumter National Forest, it meanders through forest lands; in Whitmire, it takes a couple of turns before reaching SC 72 via Central Avenue, Park Street and Glenn Street. Interstate 26 (I-26) is a main route of the Interstate Highway System in the Southeastern United States. Nominally east–west, as indicated by its even number, I-26 runs from the junction of U.S. Route 11W (US 11W) and US 23 in Kingsport, Tennessee, generally southeastward to US 17 in Charleston, South Carolina. Newberry, South Carolina
Newberry is a city in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States, in the Piedmont northwest of Columbia. The charter was adopted in 1894. The population was 10,277 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Newberry County; at one time it was called Newberry Courthouse. Newberry became a city in 1976, but did not report the change to the Census Bureau for more than twenty-five years. As a result, the city was listed as a town in the 2000 census.
