Joan Rylah
Joan Flora Rylah (born 20 July 1955) is an Australian financial adviser, businesswoman and politician from Burnie, Tasmania. She was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly for the Liberal Party in the Division of Braddon at the 2014 state election. She was defeated at the 2018 state election, but returned to her seat following a recount following the resignation of fellow Liberal Party MP Adam Brooks in February 2019. Division Of Braddon (state)
The electoral division of Braddon (named Darwin until 1955) is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, it includes North West Tasmania, north-west and Western Tasmania, western Tasmania as well as King Island (Tasmania), King Island. Braddon takes its name from the former Premier of Tasmania, Edward Braddon, Sir Edward Braddon. The division shares its name and boundaries with the Division of Braddon, federal division of Braddon. Adam Brooks (politician)
Adam Richard Brooks (born 16 April 1975) is a former Liberal Party member for Braddon in the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 2010 to 2019. He was an endorsed Liberal Party candidate for the 2021 state election in the division of Braddon, and was re-elected on 1 May, but resigned two weeks after the election following charges being laid against him by Queensland Police for alleged firearms and document offences. Prior to politics, he worked in the Royal Australian Navy for eight years maintaining missile systems, followed by involvement the mining industry and then as a small businessman. At the 2010 Tasmanian state election, Brooks was the second highest Liberal candidate securing 9.7% of the primary vote. Felix Ashton Ellis (born 22 January 1990) is an Australian politician, who was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly on 17 August 2020 in a recount to fill a vacancy for the division of Braddon. A member of the Liberal Party, Ellis is a member of the Rockliff ministry, serving as Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Resources, and Skills, Training and Workforce Growth. Early life and education Ellis was born in Brisbane and raised in Western Australia, including in remote aboriginal communities. Ellis graduated from Hale School in 2007 before completing an apprenticeship in plumbing and gas fitting with the family business. Smithton is a town on the far north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It lies on the Bass Highway, 85 km north-west of Burnie. At the , Smithton had a population of 3,934. Smithton is the administrative centre of the Circular Head Council. History ''Duck River'' Post Office opened on 1 November 1873 and was renamed ''Smithton'' in 1895. Burnie is a port city on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. When founded in 1827, it was named Emu Bay, being renamed after William Burnie, a director of the Van Diemen's Land Company, in the early 1840s. , Burnie had an urban population of 19,550. The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. 2014 Tasmanian State Election
The 2014 Tasmanian state election was held on 15 March 2014 to elect all 25 members to the House of Assembly. The 16-year incumbent Labor government, led by the Premier of Tasmania Lara Giddings, sought to win a fifth consecutive term against the Liberal opposition, led by Opposition Leader Will Hodgman. The 2018 Tasmanian state election was held on 3 March 2018 to elect all 25 members of the Tasmanian House of Assembly.
