Joan Holmes
Joan Holmes (born 1935) is an American psychologist. She was the founding president of The Hunger Project,Pressman, Steven, ''Outrageous Betrayal: The dark journey of Werner Erhard from Erhard Seminars Training, est to exile''. New York City: St. Martin's Press, 1993. and served as one of 31 members on 'Task Force 2 on Hunger' of the United Nations Millennium Project, UN Millennium Project of 2000–2006. She worked as a consulting educational psychologist for Erhard Seminars Training (est) prior to establishing The Hunger Project in 1977. Education Holmes has a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Colorado, and an Master's degree, M.A. in psychology from San Francisco State University. Erhard Seminars Training (marketed as est, though often encountered as EST or Est) was an organization, founded by Werner Erhard in 1971, that offered a two-weekend (6-day, 60-hour) course known officially as "The est Standard Training". World Food Conference
The first World Food Conference was held in Rome in 1974 (5-16 November) by the United Nations under the auspices of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in the wake of the devastating famine in Bangladesh in the preceding two years. Perhaps the most famous statement made at the conference was by then-U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger who made the declaration that within 10 years no child would go to bed hungry. In the Universal Declaration on the Eradication of Hunger and Malnutrition, governments attending the World Food Conference proclaimed that ''"every man, woman and child has the inalienable right to be free from hunger and malnutrition in order to develop their physical and mental faculties."''
