Jiří Brdečka
Jiří Brdečka (24 December 1917 – 2 June 1982) was a Czech writer, artist, and film director. Life Brdečka was born in Hranice (then in Austria-Hungary) to a literary family; his father, Otakar Brdečka (1881 – 1930), wrote under the pseudonym Alfa. Brdečka studied philosophy and aesthetics at Charles University in Prague until the German occupation of Czechoslovakia forced the closing of the school in 1939. He then became an administrative clerk at the Prague Municipal Museum and found occasional work as a newspaper journalist and cartoonist. He worked as a press agent for the studio from summer 1941 to the end of 1942. In 1943 Brdečka took a job as an animator, and by 1949 he was working as a film director and screenwriter at Barrandov Studios. He began directing animated films on his own in 1958. Hranice (Přerov District)
Hranice (; german: Weißkirchen or ''Mährisch Weißkirchen'') is a town in Přerov District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 17,000 inhabitants. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. The town is known for the Hranice Abyss. A Midsummer Night's Dream (1959 Film)
''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' ( cs, Sen noci svatojánské) is a 1959 Czechoslovak animated puppet film directed by Jiří Trnka, his last feature length film before his death 10 years later in 1969. It is based on the Shakespeare play of the same name. Production Trnka, working under the Czech communist regime who had previously been denied in his wish to adapt ''Don Quixote'', worked for several years on his adaptation of ''A Midsummer Night's Dream''. The film established a new pinnacle of craftmanship. Beyond the artistic aspects the film was technically advanced. Trnka used expensive Eastmancolor stock* Every scene was shot with two cameras simultaneously—one shooting Academy ratio, and one shooting in the then new CinemaScope format, effectively producing an in-camera pan-and-scan version—all so Trnka could ensure that his widescreen production would not be presented letterboxed. Gene Deitch
Eugene Merril Deitch (August 8, 1924 – April 16, 2020) was an American illustrator, animator, comics artist, and film director who was based in Prague from the 1960s until his death in 2020. Deitch was known for creating animated cartoons such as ''Munro (film), Munro'', ''Tom Terrific'', and ''Nudnik'', as well as his work on the ''Popeye'' and ''Tom and Jerry'' series. Early life Deitch was born in Chicago on August 8, 1924, the son of salesman Joseph Deitch and Ruth Delson Deitch. In 1929, the family moved to California, and Deitch attended school in Hollywood. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1942. Early career After graduating, Deitch began working for North American Aviation, drawing aircraft blueprints. In 1943, he was military conscription, drafted and underwent pilot training before catching pneumonia and was honorably discharged in May of the following year. The Prince And The Evening Star
The Prince and the Evening Star (Czech:Princ a Večernice) is a 1979 Czechoslovak fairy tale film. Plot Old King has a son Velen and three daughters. One day he leaves Velen to temporarily run the kingdom. One night, Velen wishes upon the Evening Star, hoping to find husbands for his three sisters, and Evening Star delivers her three brothers, Moonbeam, Sunbeam and Wind. Meanwhile, Velen falls in love with the Evening Star. King is dissatisfied with Velen's actions and wants Velen to bring his sisters back. They quarrel, and Velen leaves the castle on a quest to retrieve his sisters, as well as find the object of his affection, Evening Star. He has to face many dangers on his quest, including being endangered by the evil wizard Cloudbreaker (a personification of storm) who wants to marry Evening Star. ''Dinner for Adele'' ( cs, Adéla ještě nevečeřela) is a 1977 Czech parody comedy film directed by Oldřich Lipský. Alternative titles were ''Adele Hasn't Had Her Dinner Yet'', ''Nick Carter in Prague'' and ''Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet''. Production The main character is a parody of the detective Nick Carter from American dime novels.
