Jinx (DC Comics)
Jinx is a fictional supervillain appearing in American books published by DC Comics. Created by Marv Wolfman and Chuck Patton, she first appeared in ''Tales of the Teen Titans'' #56 (August 1985). The character is often depicted as a skilled Indian sorceress and one of the leaders of the Fearsome Five, a group of super-villains most notable for being adversaries of the Teen Titans and it's derivaties. This character bears no relation to the male character of the same name who first appeared in ''Adventure Comics'' #488 as an adversary of Dial H for Hero, Chris King and Vicki Grant. The character has been adapted into other media, including animated films and televisions series, and video games. ''Jinx'' is a comic book series published first by Caliber Comics and then Image Comics, written and drawn by Brian Michael Bendis. Synopsis Jinx is a prequel to the same author's ''A.K.A. Goldfish'', telling the story of Jinx, a female bounty hunter and her relationship with David Goldfish, con-artist and wanted felon. Jinx has also crossed over with the detective series ''Sam and Twitch''. There she helps them track down a bounty hunter that has become mentally deranged. A jinx (also jynx), in popular superstition and folklore, is a curse or the attribute of attracting bad or negative luck. The word ''"jynx"'' meaning the bird wryneck and sometimes a charm or spell has been in use in English since the seventeenth century. The modern spelling and connotations developed late in the nineteenth century. The term "jinx" also commonly arises when one does not want to say something positive about an incomplete or inconclusive situation out of fear of "jinxing it". The superstition goes that speaking positively about one's current situation will cause it to be "jinxed", and things will start to go wrong. Jonah is a comic strip character published in the magazine ''The Beano''. He made his first appearance in his eponymous comic strip in 1958, illustrated by Ken Reid. Although his comic strip sporadically appeared throughout the magazine, it has been published in other DC Thomson comic magazines. Synopsis Jonah is a skinny, gormless, chinless wonder of a sailor, feared by other mariners because of his clumsiness. He has (accidentally) sank every ship he has sailed on (as well as all other vessels surrounding, at times), and started a war between the nations of Gorgonzolia and Parafinalia and this resulted in the utter destruction of the combined fleets of both countries (a possible reference to the Cold War).
