Jinnamgwan Hall
Jinnamgwan Hall (Korean language, Korean: ) is a historical building in the South Korean city Yeosu. The wooden structure consists of a roof, that is supported by 68 columns. It is decorated with carved Nelumbo nucifera, lotus buds, dragon heads, and Dancheong paintwork. Jinnamgwan Hall is long and tall. The original building, commissioned by Naval Commander Yi Si-eon, was completed in 1599 during the Joseon, Joseon dynasty. It stood on the former site of ''Jinhaeru'', the naval base of Jeolla Province. That naval base was the headquarters of Admiral Yi Sun-sin during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598), Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 and burned down in 1597. Jinnamgwan Hall was used as a guest house for government officials. A fire destroyed the building in 1716, but it was rebuilt two years later by Admiral Yi Je-myeon. Yeosu (; ''Yeosu-si''), historically also Yosu, and known to the Japanese as Reisui during the period when Korea was under Japanese rule, is a city located on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula in South Jeolla Province, South Korea and comprises the Old Yeosu City, founded in 1949, Yeocheon City, founded in 1986, and Yeocheon County which were merged into the current Yeosu city in 1998. Characteristics The city of Yeosu consists of the Yeosu peninsula as well as 365 islands (48 inhabited, 317 uninhabited).
