James John Walker (June 19, 1881November 18, 1946), known colloquially as Beau James, was mayor of New York City from 1926 to 1932. A flamboyant politician, he was a liberal Democrat and part of the powerful Tammany Hall machine. He was forced to resign during a corruption scandal. Early life and political career Walker was the son of Irish-born William H. Walker (1842–1916), a carpenter and lumberyard owner who was very active in local politics as a Democratic assemblyman and alderman from Greenwich Village, belying certain accounts of Walker's childhood that stated he grew up in poverty. Walker was not the best of students and dropped out of college before eventually graduating from New York Law School in 1904. Walker's father wanted him to become a lawyer and politician. Walker at first decided that he would rather write songs and be involved in the music industry. Jimmy Walker (basketball, Born 1913)
James Edwin Walker (April 9, 1913 – December 22, 1943) was an American football and basketball coach. Walker played both basketball and football for the University of Alabama before he took his first coaching job upon graduation at El Dorado High School. After only one year at El Dorado, Walker went on to serve as head basketball and as an assistant football coach at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). During his tenure as head coach of the Keydets, Walker compiled an overall record of . In 1942, Walker resigned his coaching positions and joined the United States Navy. Walker died at the age of 30 in Brazil on December 22, 1943, as a result of injuries sustained as part of his military service. Early years Walker was born in 1913 in Anniston, Alabama. Ernest Earl "Jimmy" Walker (December 18, 1915 – June 27, 1990) was an American country musician. Jimmy Walker recorded the first version of the country standard "Detour" in 1945, and to date he is the only man who ever replaced Roy Acuff on the Grand Ole Opry. He also recorded numerous other western swing-honky tonk numbers, appeared as a regular on Midwestern Hayride, WWVA Jamboree and Louisiana Hayride, and appeared in several motion pictures. Biography Born Ernest E. Walker in Mason County, West Virginia on December 18, 1915, "Jimmy" did not opt for a regular musical career until the mid-forties. Jimmy Walker (1941 – July 15, 2020) was an American musician and singer who was the drummer for one-hit wonder band The Knickerbockers and the replacement for Bill Medley in the The Righteous Brothers, Righteous Brothers, following his 1968 departure. Early life Born in The Bronx, New York (state), New York, Walker learned the drums when he was around seven or eight. He was of Irish descent. His first group was in New York called The Castle Kings.
