Jimi District
Jimi District is a district of the Jiwaka Province of Papua New Guinea. Its capital is Tabibuga. The population of the district was 71,379 at the 2011 census. Before May 2012, it was part of the Western Highlands Province. It is home to the Jimi Valley and the village of Koinambe. Jiwaka Province
Jiwaka is a province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is temporarily located in Kurumul. Mostly all provincial matters are handled in Kurumul while few are handled in Banz and Minj. The province covers an area of 4,798 km², and there are 343,987 inhabitants (2011 census final figures—2000 census 185,641). Jiwaka province officially came into being on 17 May 2012, comprising three districts previously part of Western Highlands Province. Mount Wilhelm, the tallest mountain in Papua New Guinea, is on the border of Jiwaka. "Jiwaka" is a portmanteau word combining the first two letters each of Jimi, Waghi and Kambia, the three districts from which the new province was formed. Western Highlands Province
Western Highlands is a province of Papua New Guinea. The provincial capital is Mount Hagen. The province covers an area of 4,299 km2, and there are 362,850 inhabitants (2011 census), making the Western Highlands the most densely populated province (apart from the National Capital District). Jimi Valley
Jimi is a geographical area in the inlands of Papua New Guinea. It is located in the Jimi District of Jiwaka, which was previously a part of the Western Highlands Province until May 2012. It is home to the Jimi Valley. The Jimi District is one of the least developed districts in Papua New Guinea, apart from Green River in Sandaun and Rai Coast in Madang. Its geographical location makes it a remote district of the newly-created Jiwaka province. The district is located in the Jimi Valley, which stretches from the northeast corner of Jiwaka and into Madang Province. Jimi District is almost entirely mountainous and is mostly covered with rainforest, although this forest is disappearing quickly due to peanut cultivation. Koinambe
Koinambe is a village in the Jimi District of Jiwaka Province in Papua New Guinea. Its population was 333 in 1973. The village is served by Koinambe Airport and Koinambe Hospital. In 1969, the Anglican missionary organisations the Rotary Club of Worcester South and Voluntary Service Overseas performed aid activities in the village. One of the intentions was to aid children of the village with a goitre A goitre, or goiter, is a swelling in the neck resulting from an enlarged thyroid gland. A goitre can be associated with a thyroid that is not functioning properly. Worldwide, over 90% of goitre cases are caused by iodine deficiency.
