James Joseph Sweeney (September 1, 1929 – February 8, 2013) was an American football player and coach, the head coach at Montana State University (1963–1967), Washington State University (1968–1975), and California State University, Fresno (1976–1977, 1980–1996), compiling a career college football record of Sweeney's 144 wins at Fresno State are the most in the program's history. Early years Born in Butte, Montana, Sweeney was the youngest of seven children of Will and Kate Sweeney; his father was a hard-rock miner who emigrated from Ireland. As a youth in Butte, he was a top pitcher and outfielder in baseball, and graduated from Butte Central Catholic High School in 1947. Jim Sweeney (American Football, Born 1962)
James Joseph Sweeney (August 8, 1962 – October 1, 2022) was an American professional football player who was a center and guard for 16 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). After his playing career, he became an assistant coach. Early life and college career Sweeney was born in Pittsburgh and attended Seton-La Salle Catholic High School in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. At the University of Pittsburgh, he played all five offensive line positions and tight end for the Pittsburgh Panthers from 1980 to 1983, including two seasons as starter. As a senior in 1983, he played at center and guard, and he won second-team All-American honors from ''The Sporting News''. Sweeney graduated from Pittsburgh in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in sociology and administration of justice. James Sweeney was a 1980 recipient of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award as the United States' top collegiate basketball player under 6'0" tall. Basketball He was the captain of the Boston College Eagles. He was nominated by Boston College (BC) as a Rhodes Scholar candidate. Raised in Trenton, New Jersey, he attended the Lawrenceville School before receiving an athletic scholarship to Boston College. Sweeney testified as a witness in the 1978–79 Boston College basketball point shaving scandal in which members of organized crime schemed to control the outcomes of several games. Jim Sweeney (born 8 August 1956) is a Scottish actor. Over the years, Sweeney has starred in a variety of productions for both film and television. Michael James Dominic Sweeney (born 7 February 1955; Bournemouth, England) is an England, English actor and comedian, best known for his Improvisational comedy, improvisation partnership with Steve Steen. Life and career When Sweeney was 11 years old, he moved to London with his parents, along with two brothers and a sister. He became interested in theatre and improvisation while attending Clapham College, an all-boys Roman Catholic school. Jimmy Sweeney (March 15, 1922 – October 6, 1992) a WW2 veteran, and a member of the Nashville African-American music scene. He was a singer, songwriter, and self-taught guitarist. As a pop singer, he was known professionally as Jimmy Sweeney a.k.a. Jimmy Bell. Jimmy was born, raised, and died in Nashville, Tennessee. Barley Bree
Barley Bree was a Northern Irish-Canada, Canadian band active from 1973 to 1995. It was formed in Northern Ireland in 1973, by Nicky Bryson, Buncrana fiddler P.V. O'Donnell, Seamus O'Hagan (Cookstown), and Jimmy Sweeney, a nephew of Tommy Makem and grandson of Traditional singer Sarah Makem. In 1977, all except Bryson moved to Nova Scotia; Bryson was replaced by Tom Sweeney. In 1979, O'Hagan returned to Northern Ireland and the band continued on as a trio until 1995, when Tom Sweeney left to pursue a solo career.
