Jim Spence (broadcaster)
Jim "Ping" Spence is a Scottish Sports presenter from Dundee who works for BBC Scotland and is the current rector of Dundee University. Career Spence presented the nightly football magazine ''90 Minutes'' on BBC Radio Scotland from 2004 until it was axed in 2006 to make way for more comprehensive sports coverage. Spence now hosts the station's weeknight programme Sportsound twice a week. Spence is a fan of Dundee United F.C. He became an Internet hit in 2009 after a faltering interview with Slovakian goalkeeper Dušan Perniš. Despite Perniš apologising for his poor English, Spence continues the interview with limited success. He is forced to rephrase each question several times, but just receives baffled looks from the goalkeeper. In 2015 it was announced that Spence had joined the Dundee-based newspaper '' The Courier'' as columnist. As of 2016 he is a sports columnist for the newspaper. Dundee
Dundee (; sco, Dundee; gd, Dùn Dè or ) is Scotland's fourth-largest city and the 51st-most-populous built-up area in the United Kingdom. The mid-year population estimate for 2016 was , giving Dundee a population density of 2,478/km2 or 6,420/sq mi, the second-highest in Scotland. It lies within the eastern central Lowlands on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, which feeds into the North Sea. Jonathan Watson
Jonathan Watson is a Scottish actor best known for his comedy sketch show ''Only an Excuse?'', which parodied people and events from the world of Scottish football, as well as the BBC comedy ''Bob Servant Independent'' in which he appears with Brian Cox. Background Watson was born in Glasgow and was educated at Hillhead Primary and Hillhead High School. He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and graduated in 1979. He joined the TAG Theatre Company then followed this with a season with the 7:84 company. He had a part in Bill Forsyth's 1983 film '' Local Hero''. He moved to London in 1986 and returned to Scotland two years later. Mark Ian Macleod Beaumont (born 1 January 1983) is a British long-distance cyclist, broadcaster and author. He holds the record for cycling round the world, completing his route on 18 September 2017, having taken less than 79 days. On 18 February 2010 Beaumont completed a quest to cycle the Americas, cycling from Anchorage, Alaska, US to Ushuaia in Southern Argentina, for a BBC Television series. In the summer of 2011 Beaumont joined a six-man team to row from Resolute Bay in the Nunavut Territory, Canada to the 1996 location of the North Magnetic Pole. Each of these expeditions was filmed for BBC One documentaries. On 1 February 2012 Beaumont and his team of rowers were rescued from the Atlantic Ocean when their rowing boat capsized during a crossing from Morocco to Barbados. Rector Of The University Of Dundee
The rector of the University of Dundee is elected by the matriculated students of the University of Dundee. From 1967 (when the university gained independence from the University of St. Andrews) to 2010, the rector was automatically a full member of the University Court (the university governing body). The rector also had the right to appoint an assessor, who was also a full member of the University Court. Following changes made to the university charter in August 2010, the rector must choose to take up full membership of the University Court or appoint an assessor who has full voting rights. If the rector chooses not take up full membership of court, they retain the right to receive court papers and attend its meetings but not to vote. ''Only an Excuse?'' is an annual Scottish comedy sketch show that was broadcast on BBC One Scotland on Hogmanay from 1993 to 2020. It starred the actor and comedian Jonathan Watson and featured impressions of some of Scottish football's great characters such as Denis Law, Tommy Burns, Barry Ferguson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Frank McAvennie, Walter Smith and Graeme Souness, as well as caricatures of the "stereotypical" Old Firm fan. ''The Courier'' (known as ''The Courier & Advertiser'' between 1926 and 2012) is a newspaper published by DC Thomson in Dundee, Scotland.
