Jim Sauter
Jim Sauter (June 1, 1943 – October 31, 2014) was an American stock car racing driver from Necedah, Wisconsin. He formerly raced in all three of NASCAR's national series, and is best known for having been a test driver for the International Race of Champions, as well as winning two championships in the Midwest-based ARTGO Challenge Series. Racing career Sauter started racing in 1964 in a modified at Raceway Park in Savage, Minnesota. He moved up to late models the following year. Sauter moved to Wisconsin. He won the first race at the LaCrosse Interstate Fairgrounds (now LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway) on July 14, 1970. His career took off after he won the North Star 500 at the Minnesota State Fair in a Dave Marcis Chevelle. Necedah (town), Wisconsin
Necedah is a town in Juneau County, United States. The population was 2,156 at the 2000 census. The Village of Necedah is located within the town. The unincorporated communities of Cloverdale and Sprague are also located in the town. History The name "Necedah" comes from the Ho Chunk peoples who inhabited the area before the arrival of European settlers and means "Land of the Yellow Waters", a reference to the Yellow River. Savage is a suburban city south-southwest of downtown Minneapolis in Scott County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. International Race Of Champions
International Race of Champions (IROC) was a North American auto racing competition, created by Les Richter, Roger Penske and Mike Phelps, promoted as an equivalent of an American motorsports All-Star Game. Despite its name, the IROC was primarily associated with North American, oval-track racing. Drivers raced identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics in an effort to make the race purely a test of driver ability. It was run with a small field of 12 invited drivers. It was created and developed in 1972 by David Lockton, the developer of the Ontario Motor Speedway, launched in 1973, with Mark Donohue being the first driver to win the championship in 1974. The cars used that year were Porsche Carrera RSRs.
