Jim Ray Smith
James Ray Smith (born February 27, 1932) is a former American football offensive guard who played nine seasons in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Baylor University. Early years Smith attended West Columbia High School where he practiced four sports. He accepted a scholarship from Baylor University, where he was a two-way tackle and a three-year starter. In 1968, he was inducted into the Baylor University Athletics Hall of Fame. In 1987, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In 2008, he was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Guard (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for Blocking (American football), blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming defensive line, linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. Paul Brown
Paul Eugene Brown (September 7, 1908 – August 5, 1991) was an American football coach and executive in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and National Football League (NFL). Brown was both the co-founder and first coach of the Cleveland Browns, a team named after him, and later played a role in founding the Cincinnati Bengals. His teams won seven league championships in a professional coaching career spanning 25 seasons. Brown began his coaching career at Severn School in 1931 before becoming the head football coach at Massillon Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, where he grew up. His high school teams lost only 10 games in 11 seasons. He was then hired at Ohio State University and coached the school to its first national football championship in 1942. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played.
