Jim O'Neill (baseball)
James Leo O'Neill (February 23, 1893 – September 5, 1976) was a backup shortstop in Major League Baseball who played for the Washington Senators. He batted and threw right-handed. A native of Minooka, Pennsylvania, where he played for the Minooka Blues in the Northeast Pennsylvania Temperance League, O'Neill played for a significant number of minor league clubs, beginning in 1914 and ending in 1930. He played with the Washington Senators in part of two seasons in 1920 and 1923, and posted a .287 batting average with one home run and 43 RBI in 109 games. O'Neill was the youngest of four brothers who played in the major leagues. Steve, the most prominent of the four, was a catcher in the majors for 17 years and also managed the Indians, Tigers, Red Sox and Phillies. Jack caught with the Cardinals, Cubs and Beaneaters, and Mike was a pitcher and left fielder for the Cardinals and Reds. Terence James O'Neill, Baron O'Neill of Gatley (born 17 March 1957) is a British economist best known for coining BRICs, the acronym that stands for Brazil, Russia, India, and China—the four once rapidly developing countries that were thought to challenge the global economic power of the developed G7 economies. He is also a former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and former Conservative government minister. As of January 2014, he is an Honorary Professor of Economics at the University of Manchester. He was appointed Commercial Secretary to the Treasury in the Second Cameron Ministry, a position he held until his resignation on 23 September 2016. James Beaton "Peggy" O'Neil (April 3, 1913 – October 17, 1997) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He played 165 National Hockey League games between 1933 and 1942, including nine in the playoffs. Early life O'Neil was born in Semans, Saskatchewan. Career He played for the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1931 to 1946, was mainly spent in the American Hockey League. O'Neil scored six NHL goals, all for Boston. The first one occurred at Boston Garden on January 9, 1934. It was the only Boston goal in the team's 2-1 home loss to the New York Americans. He played 447 regular season AHL games and another 43 in the post-season. His best offensive season in the AHL was 1942–1943, when he scored 19 goals and had 50 assists for 69 points in 55 games for 1.25 points per game. He was a managing director at Peter Thiel’s Mithril Capital in Silicon Valley. O'Neill was CEO of SENS Research Foundation until his departure in July 2021. He has previously been a coach in the NFL for the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders. Jimme O'Neill is a Scottish singer and guitarist who has been the lead singer of Scottish rock band The Silencers since 1984. Having started his musical career with Cha Burns in Fingerprintz in the new wave music scene, they joined Martin Hanlin and Joseph Donnelly in the 1980s to create the band The Silencers. Career Born in Glasgow, Scotland with Irish roots, his first group, named Fingerprintz, recorded three albums from 1977 to 1981. A skilled composer, he has also written songs for artists such as Lene Lovich, Paul Young, Rachel Sweet and Manfred Mann.
