Jim Morris
James Samuel Morris Jr. (born January 19, 1964) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for two seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Although brief, Morris' career is noted for making his MLB debut at the age of 35 and after undergoing several arm surgeries. His story was dramatized in the 2002 film '' The Rookie''. Early life Morris was born in Brownwood, Texas, but spent most of his childhood moving to different cities, as his father was in the United States Navy. Throughout his childhood, Morris lived in New Haven, Connecticut, Great Lakes, Illinois, and Jacksonville, Florida. He began playing baseball at the age of three. His father, Jim Sr., became a recruiter for the Navy. His father and mother, Olline Hale, settled in Brownwood, Texas. Jimmy Morris (16 July 1891 – 30 May 1971) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Jimmy Morris (hurler)
James Morris (14 September 1896 – 18 March 1932) was an Irish hurler. Usually lining out at midfield, he was a member of the Galway team that won the 1923 All-Ireland Championship. Morris enjoyed a club career with Gort that spanned three decades. After joining the club's senior team in his late teens, he won two county championship medals in 1914 and 1916. He later served as captain of the team for over a decade. After being selected for the Galway senior team in 1922, he won a Connacht medal in his debut championship. He won his sole All-Ireland medal in 1923 after Galway's defeat of Limerick in the final. Morris died of tuberculosis on 18 March 1932. He was the first member of Galway's inaugural All-Ireland-winning team to die. Jim Morris (August 31, 1935 – January 28, 2016) was an American bodybuilder known for winning competitions over a thirty-year career. Among the titles Morris won are: Mr. USA (1972), AAU Mr. America (1973), Mr. International (1974), and Mr. Olympia Masters Over 60 (1996). At age 50, he became a vegetarian and over 15 years transitioned to vegan, a diet to which he credited much of his excellent health. He posed nude for a PETA ad in support of the vegan lifestyle. Morris, who still trained regularly as of 2011, had been bodybuilding since September 1954. From 1974 to 1988 he was Elton John's personal bodyguard. He was openly gay. In 1971 he became the first openly gay IFBB professional bodybuilder. Jim Morris (born February 20, 1950) is the former head baseball coach at the University of Miami and Georgia Tech. His teams qualified for NCAA Regionals for 32 consecutive years, 23 at Miami and nine at Georgia Tech. Morris won national championships in 1999 and 2001, and earned National Coach of the Year honors in both seasons. Early career Morris began his coaching career as an assistant at Appalachian State in 1975. In 1976, he accepted the challenge of building, from scratch, a baseball program at Atlanta's DeKalb Community College. At DeKalb, Morris started with no players and no field, but he quickly made a name for himself. His Eagles were nationally ranked three times in four years and advanced to the 1977 Junior College World Series, where DeKalb placed second. He is best known for his appearances with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1984 to 1991, and in the series ''Hillbilly Moments''. Career He was voted Most Promising Playwright of 1981 by The Financial Times and The Morning Star for his first stage play Blood On The Dole which was performed at The Liverpool Playhouse in 1981 where he was resident playwright.
