James Raymond Lawson
James Raymond Lawson (January 15, 1915 – December 21, 1996) was an American physicist and university administrator. He was the president of Fisk University, a historically black university in Nashville, Tennessee, from 1967 to 1975. Early life James Raymond Lawson was born on January 15, 1915, in Louisville, Kentucky. His father, Daniel LaMont Lawson, was a Fisk alumnus, Fisk Jubilee Singer and an academic dean at Simmons College. Lawson attended Fisk University, where he conducted research in the field of infrared spectroscopy under the mentorship of Elmer S. Imes. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and was elected to the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa. He was the first student to graduate from Fisk with a bachelor's degree in physics, doing so in 1935. He attended the University of Michigan on a Rosenwald Fellowship, where he earned a PhD in physics in 1939. James Lawson (footballer)
James Peter Lawson (born 21 January 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward. Lawson made 26 first team appearances in the Football League for Southend United as well as spending time on loan at Grimsby Town and AFC Bournemouth. Club career Lawson began his career with Southend United, scoring within 10 minutes on his debut against Oldham Athletic in September 2005. He scored two goals in four starts before suffering a slight injury, and was given his first professional contract until the end of the 2006–07 season. He made 26 league and cup appearances for Southend in the 2005–06 season. He was unable to establish himself in the first team at the beginning of the 2006–07 season and joined League Two side Grimsby Town in September 2006 on a one-month loan. Jamie Lawson (born 1 December 1975) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. He was born and raised in St Budeaux, Plymouth, England. He was the first artist to be signed by Ed Sheeran's new record label, Gingerbread Man Records. Lawson is best known for his hit single, " Wasn't Expecting That", and his self-titled album which peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2015. James "Jim" Sutherland Lawson (born 6 May 1934) is an Australian public health doctor and scientist, known for research on breast cancer and for public health services and prevention programs, currently in use in Australian and international public health services. Early life Jim Lawson is the youngest of three children of Jack and Kitty Lawson of Castlemaine, Victoria and the grandson of Harry Lawson, the 27th Premier of Victoria. During the Second World War, Lawson attended the local primary and high school, then he was sent as a boarder to the private Scotch College in Melbourne. Subsequently, he began medical studies at the University of Melbourne, completed with the prize in surgery and a top place as an intern at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. James Gilchrist Lawson (1874–1946) was an American Baptist evangelist, prohibitionist, editor, author and compiler. He was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on September 10, 1874 to James J. and Margaret (Logan) Lawson. He visited the British Isles in 1900 and spent the next eight years there, five of those years as special correspondent for religious papers of London. He married Camilla Martens on November 14, 1914, in Illinois. From 1909-1922 he was manager of Glad Tidings Publishing Company in Chicago, Illinois; editor at Church Publishing House, publisher of church magazines, from 1925-1932; manager of Family Altar League for seven years and an editor for Family Altar Magazine. James Lawson Drummond
James Lawson Drummond (1783 – 1853) was an Irish physician, naturalist and botanist. Drummond was born in Larne, Co. Antrim and educated at the Belfast Academy. He received a surgical training at the Belfast Academical Institution and was an apprentice surgeon in the Royal Navy. After serving as navy surgeon in the Mediterranean from 1807 to 1813, he retired from the navy in May 1813 and then further studied medicine in Edinburgh. With a thesis on the comparative anatomy of the eye, Drummond graduated M.D. from Edinburgh on 24 June 1814. In 1814 he was Physician to Belfast Dispensary and in the Belfast Academical Institution where in 1818 he had been appointed Professor of Anatomy and Physiology. James Lawson was the Church of Scotland minister who succeeded John Knox at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. Lawson's great educational achievement was the founding of the University of Edinburgh. He may be said to have been its principal promoter, and its best and wisest friend during the first year of its history, 1583. James Lawson was a fellow-student at St Andrews with Andrew Melville in 1559, having been educated gratuitously by Andrew Simson, the celebrated master of the school of Perth. Jamie Lawson (born 5 October 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the early 1990s. Lawson, a rover, was recruited from the Sunraysia Football League. James Morris Lawson Jr. (born September 22, 1928) is an American activist and university professor. He was a leading theoretician and tactician of nonviolence within the Civil Rights Movement. During the 1960s, he served as a mentor to the Nashville Student Movement and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He was expelled from Vanderbilt University for his civil rights activism in 1960, and later served as a pastor in Los Angeles for 25 years.
