Jim Irvin
Jim Irvin is an English singer, songwriter, music journalist and podcast host. Early life Born James Lawrence Irvin and raised in west London. Career Furniture Irvin was the singer in the English new wave band Furniture, who released singles and albums with Survival, Stiff and Arista Records between 1982 and 1990. He co-wrote their 1986 UK hit single, " Brilliant Mind", taken from the album, '' The Wrong People''. The song also appeared in the John Hughes movie, '' Some Kind of Wonderful'' and was re-recorded for the soundtrack. Furniture made one further album, '' Food, Sex & Paranoia'', for Arista (1990), and disbanded in 1991. In 1992, Irvin recorded an album, ''Mad Scared Dumb and Gorgeous'' with jazz musician Chris Ingham, under the name Because. It was released on Boo Hewerdine's Haven label. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many popular music styles of the era, including power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and more specific forms of punk rock that were less abrasive. It may also be viewed as a more accessible counterpart of post-punk. When The Boom Was On
Furniture were a British new wave band, active from 1979 to 1991. The band is best known for the 1986 top 30 hit, " Brilliant Mind". The longest-serving and best-known line-up of Furniture (from 1983 to 1990), comprised founder members Jim Irvin (vocals), singer/multi-instrumentalist Tim Whelan and drummer Hamilton Lee, plus bass player/occasional singer Sally Still and keyboard player Maya Gilder. Larry N’Azone (saxophone) was an occasional member during this period and often appeared with the band live. Furniture's chief success was in the UK but they also enjoyed a following throughout Eastern Europe where they toured in 1987 and 1988. Since the break-up of the band, Furniture has retained a certain cult appeal, partly due to a continuing high reputation for songwriting and partly due to the nature of the band's career. Leisure Noise
''Leisure Noise'' is the first album by London band Gay Dad, released via London Records and Sire Records on 7 June 1999. The album is a blending of glam rock, neo-psychedelia, krautrock and gospel into indie pop. Lyrically it is often about and constructed of rock history. The track-listing was designed to mimic the traditional two-sided vinyl. Chris Hughes produced the album, except for "To Earth with Love", which was produced by Tony Visconti and Mark Frith. Gary Langan handled recording and mixing; Howie Weinberg mastered the album at Masterdisc in New York City. Gay Dad were an English rock band that formed in London in 1994 and broke up in 2002. The line-up of the band has included Cliff Jones (guitarist/vocalist), Nick "Baz" Crowe (drummer), James Riseboro (keyboardist), Nigel Hoyle (bassist) and Charley Stone. Jeff Buckley
Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scott Moorhead, was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by performing cover songs at venues in East Village, Manhattan, such as Sin-é, while gradually focusing more on his own material.
