Jim Hubbard
Jim Hubbard (born 1949) is a New Zealand cartoonist. He joined the ''Daily Telegraph'' (Napier, New Zealand) in 1985. His work has appeared in a number of New Zealand newspapers, including the '' Dominion Post'', ''Bay of Plenty Times'', the ''Southland Times'', the ''Daily Telegraph'' (Napier), the ''Northern Advocate'' and the ''Otago Daily Times''. He won the New Zealand Cartoonist of the Year in 2011 at the Canon Media Awards. Bay Of Plenty Times
The ''Bay of Plenty Times'' is the regional daily paper for the Bay of Plenty area, including Tauranga, in the North Island of New Zealand. History The ''Bay of Plenty Times'' was first produced on 4 September 1872 as a bi-weekly publication. It consisted of four tabloid-sized pages and cost three pence per issue. The founder and editor was WB Langbridge. Ownership of the newspaper changed many times over the next 40 years, including several times through mortgagee sales. Despite these hardships the ''Times'' issued a Christmas supplement in 1897 which featured one of the earliest use of photographs in New Zealand newspapers. From 1913 the paper's viability stabilised under the Gifford and Cross families. Both families were associated with the paper until it was sold to Wilson and Horton in 1992. Garrick Tremain
Garrick Tremain (born 1941) is a New Zealand cartoonist and painter living in Queenstown. Biography He has been a professional painter since 1972 and a cartoonist since 1988. Tremain has produced a cartoon six or seven days a week for various New Zealand newspapers, including the ''Otago Daily Times'', apart from a few months of semi-retirement from February 2007, when he produced weekly cartoons. He has been a finalist for the Qantas Media Awards Cartoonist in 2000 and 2004. Controversy On 3 December 2019 the ''Otago Daily Times'' published a cartoon by Tremain making light of the measles epidemic in Samoa. At that point the epidemic had killed 53 people, almost exclusively small children. Many people questioned how a cartoonist could think this an appropriate subject for a cartoon, and also why the editor allowed it to be published. Eric Heath (artist)
Eric Walmsley Heath (born 23 November 1923) is a New Zealand artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. Life and work Heath was born in Wellington and began his professional life working as an filing clerk for ''The Evening Post''. He joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force during the Second World War and served with the Air Sea Rescue Catalina Squadron in the Solomon Islands. After his military service Heath returned to working for ''The Evening Post'', training as a photo engraver. Subsequent to this he worked as a freelance artist. In 1965, Heath had his first cartoon published in '' The Dominion'' newspaper. He was the editorial cartoonist for the ''Dominion'' from 1964 until 1993 and produced five cartoons a week for 28 years. Burton Silver
Burton Silver (born 1945) is a New Zealand cartoonist, parodist, and writer, known for his comic strip ''Bogor'' and the best-selling book '' Why Paint Cats''. He lives in South Wairarapa, New Zealand. Biography Silver was born in 1945 and attended Wellington College, later completing a B.A. at Victoria University of Wellington in psychology and sociology and Asian Studies. He worked initially as a boilermaker's assistant on Groote Eylandt, Northern Territory, Australia and later as safari guide based in Darwin. Returning to NZ he developed and sold short skis, the Fiessen Resin 120 before travelling in Asia where he worked briefly as an advisor to the Indian High Altitude Warfare school in Gulmarg.
