Jim Hickey (broadcaster)
Jim Hickey (born 1 August 1949) is a weather presenter for TVNZ in New Zealand. He was the senior weathercaster for TVNZ for 22 years. Biography Hickey grew up on a farm in Ōpunake, and initially trained as a secondary school teacher before going on to study a Bachelor of Arts in geography with specialisation in climatology. Hickey later completed a Diploma of Meteorology. In 2006, Hickey was announced as a board member of Family First New Zealand, a conservative Christian lobby group, a position he still holds. Hickey has an affinity for aviation; during his time as a weatherman, Hickey would pilot himself from his home in New Plymouth to his work in Auckland in a Cessna. In 2019 '' Stuff'' published that Hickey was living in an unused airport hangar at the New Plymouth airport that he had remodelled. Brendan Horan
Brendan Francis John Horan (born 9 July 1961) is a New Zealand former politician and former list MP, who was elected to the New Zealand Parliament in 2011 for the New Zealand First party. He was expelled from the New Zealand First caucus on 4 December 2012 and served the remainder of his term as an Independent. Horan is of Māori descent with affiliations to Ngāti Maniapoto. Media and sporting career Horan was a weather presenter for Television New Zealand's ONE News, running on a regular cycle with Karen Olsen and Natalie Crook. He started in March 2005, and took redundancy in 2007 when former TV1 weather presenter Jim Hickey returned after nearly 4 years absence on the air. ''Country Calendar'' is a New Zealand documentary television series focusing on rural life in New Zealand. It has been aired on TVNZ 1 since March 1966, making it New Zealand's longest-running television series. Since 2013 the show aired for a season of 30 weeks per year, however as of 2016 it is being broadcast for 40 weeks a year. Episodes from the 2013 season to present are available to watch online, through TVNZ OnDemand. ''Country Calendar'' is currently produced by Julian O’Brien, with associate producer Dan Henry. Frank Torley was well known as the narrator of the show, and also produced the show for 23 years. Torley died in March 2016 following a short battle with cancer. Eating Media Lunch (EML) was a satirical New Zealand news show hosted by Jeremy Wells. It aired on TV2 from 2003 to 2008. The show was frequently controversial during its run. Notable episodes In 2005 it shocked some viewers when it depicted two newsreaders fornicating (a parody of Naked News). It frequently caused complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority, ranging from complaints about the show's treatment of New Zealand celebrities to complaints about an episode which showed a cat in a microwave oven. Tamati Gerald Coffey (born 19 September 1979) is a list Member of the New Zealand Parliament for the New Zealand Labour Party. Prior to entering Parliament, he was most notably an award-winning broadcaster fronting many shows over a decade, for Television New Zealand. He was also a successful small business hospitality owner in his hometown of Rotorua for 7 years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, before selling in 2022.
