Jim Gosnell
James Gosnell (7 July 1899 – 7 July 1969) was an Australian rules footballer who played with West Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) during the 1920s. Gosnell was a defender and started his WAFL career in 1918. He then spent the next two years in the Goldfields Football League where he played at Kalgoorlie Railways. In 1921 he returned to West Perth and featured regularly in their team for the rest of the decade. He won the Sandover Medal in 1924, was also runner-up a further two times and won a West Perth 'Fairest and Best' award in 1927. Gosnell captained his club in 1928 and represented Western Australia in 15 interstate matches. The Sandover winner ended back at Kalgoorlie in 1930 was a Dillon Medalist before retiring. North Fremantle is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Fremantle, a local government area of the state. Its postcode is 6159. The Western Australia Australian rules football team is the state representative side of Western Australia in the sport of Australian rules football. Western Australia has a proud history in interstate football, having a successful historical record and winning three Australian Championships and a State of Origin Carnival Championship, in the State of Origin era. Sandover Medal
The Sandover Medal is an Australian rules football award, given annually since 1921 to the fairest and best player in the West Australian Football League. The award was donated by Alfred Sandover M.B.E., a prominent Perth hardware merchant and benefactor. Voting system After each match, the three field umpires (those umpires who control the flow of the game) confer and award a 3, 2 and 1 point vote to the players they regard as the best, second best, and third best in the match respectively. Voting wasn't always done this way. From 1985-2018, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point votes were given, from 1930–1984, 3, 2 and 1 point votes were given, and prior to 1930 there was only one vote per game. Just like similar "fairest and best" awards, for example the Brownlow and Magarey Medals, if a player is suspended for a reportable offence throughout the season then they become ineligible to win the award. The West Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Falcons, is an Australian rules football club located in Joondalup, Western Australia. West Perth competes in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW) and is the oldest existing Australian rules football club in Western Australia. Originally located at Leederville Oval, the team was relocated in 1994 to Arena Joondalup, a sports complex in the northern suburbs of Perth. Goldfields Football League
The Goldfields Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Founded in 1896 as Hannans District Football Association, the league enjoyed a seat and full voting rights on the Australian National Football Council until 1919. The first clubs to play Australian football were formed within the region, and the league helped popularise the sport in the region, helping to establish the sport and supplant Rugby in popularity. The GFL was known as the Goldfields Football Association (GFA) from 1901–07 and 1920–25, and as the Goldfields National Football League (GNFL) from 1926–87. West Australian Football Hall Of Fame
The West Australian Football Hall of Fame was created in 2002 to recognise and enshrine those who have made a significant contribution to Australian rules football in Western Australia. People eligible for inclusion are players, coaches, umpires, administrators and media representatives. The inductees are chosen under guidelines which have been established by the West Australian Football Commission and in 2003 a Hall of Fame Selection Committee was made. The first induction into the Hall of Fame took place on 21 March 2004. Those with the most significant contribution to West Australian football are elevated to 'Legend Status' and are listed below in bold. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. West Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. The WAFL was founded in 1885 as the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), and has undergone a variety of name changes since then, re-adopting its current name in 2001.
