James Arthur Gibbons (born December 16, 1944) is an American Attorney at law, attorney, Pilot (aeronautics), aviator, geologist, Hydrology, hydrologist and politician who was the List of governors of Nevada, 28th Governor of Nevada from 2007 to 2011. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, he was previously the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative for Nevada's 2nd congressional district from 1997 to 2006. Following his service in the United States Air Force, Gibbons served as vice commander of the Nevada National Guard from 1990 to 1996. James M. Gibbons (3 August 1924 – 20 December 1997) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Agriculture from 1970 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979, Minister for Defence from 1969 to 1970 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance from 1965 to 1969. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1957 to 1981 and February 1982 to November 1982. He also served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1973 to 1977. Early life Gibbons was a native of Bonnettsrath, County Kilkenny. Gibbons was born into a very political family. His uncle Seán Gibbons was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Cumann na nGaedheal candidate at the 1923 general election, but later joined the Farmer's Party and eventually joined Fianna Fáil. James Gibbons (born 26 April 1954) is an Irish former Progressive Democrats politician who served as a member of Seanad Éireann. The son of former Fianna Fáil TD and cabinet minister Jim Gibbons Snr, Gibbons stood at the 1997 general election as the Progressive Democrats candidate in Carlow–Kilkenny constituency, previously represented both by his father Jim (between 1957 and 1981, then between February and November 1982) and by his brother Martin Gibbons (between 1987 and 1989). Gibbons came in eighth place in the five-seater constituency. After his defeat at the 1997 general election Jim Gibbons was nominated to the 21st Seanad by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. Gibbons was also unsuccessful at the 1999 local elections, failing to be elected either to Carlow County Council or to Carlow Town Council. James Edwin Gibbons (September 26, 1936 – August 20, 2016) was an American professional football tight end for the NFL's Detroit Lions (1958–68). Early life Gibbons was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Iowa, where played on teams with future Detroit Lion teammate Alex Karras. He earned All-America and All-Big 10 honors as a senior and Hawkeye team captain in 1957. In a 1957 game against Minnesota he caught nine passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-20 Iowa victory. In the 1957 Rose Bowl, Gibbons was a starter on the #3-ranked Iowa team that defeated #10-ranked Oregon State 35-19, catching a 16-yard pass from quarterback and the game's MVP Ken Ploen. Jim Gibbons is an American nonprofit executive and was the CEO and president of Goodwill Industries from 2008 to 2018. Biography Gibbons earned his bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University, and attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he was the first blind person to receive an MBA. Before coming to Goodwill in April 2008, he was CEO for 10 years of the National Industries for the Blind. Prior to NIB, Gibbons was the president and CEO of Campus Wide Access Solutions, a subsidiary of AT&T. Gibbons is a member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council and also serves as a member of the board of directors for the Independent Sector, the National Workforce Solutions Advisory Board and SourceAmerica. James Leo Gibbons (1914–2001) was an American sportscaster who called Washington Football Team, Washington Redskins games from 1943 to 1967. Early life Gibbons was born on June 3, 1914, in Greeley Center, Nebraska. He attended Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Omaha, University of Omaha. In 1940 he moved to Washington D.C. to work as a comptometer operator at the Social Security Administration. He also took classes at George Washington University and at a radio school. Broadcasting career Gibbons began his radio career in 1942 as a part-time employee of WOL (AM), WWDC.
