Jim Evans (rugby League)
James Phillip Evans (12 December 1929 – 13 August 2013) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played for Newtown and South Sydney in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Evans made his first grade debut for South Sydney in 1948 making only one appearance. In 1949 to 1951, Evans played in the Newcastle competition for the Maitland club. He played for Newcastle against the touring French team and represented NSW Country. In 1952, Evans joined Newtown but his first 2 seasons there ended with the club missing out on the finals. In 1954, Evans became captain of the team as Newtown won the minor premiership. Evans played captained Newtown and played at prop in the 1954 NSWRL grand final against South Sydney which Newtown lost 23–15. Evans also represented New South Wales and New South Wales City in 1954. Clive Bernard Churchill AM (21 January 1927 – 9 August 1985) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach in the mid-20th century. An Australian international and New South Wales and Queensland interstate representative , he played the majority of his club football with and later coached the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He won five premierships with the club as a player and three more as coach. The New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) is the governing body of rugby league in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission. It was formed in Sydney on 8 August 1907 and was known as the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) until 1984. From 1908 to 1994, the NSWRL ran Sydney's, then New South Wales', and eventually Australia's top-level rugby league club competition from their headquarters (or "Bunker" as it was nicknamed during the Super League war) on Phillip Street, Sydney.
