Jim Clark (Australian Politician)
James Clark (5 February 1891 – 22 November 1963) was a miner and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Clark was born in Gympie, Queensland, to parents James Clark and his wife Marion Cathie Clark (née White). He worked as a miner and in 1926 he became an organiser with the Australian Workers' Union. Electoral District Of Fitzroy (Queensland)
Fitzroy was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district was based in central Queensland, west of Rockhampton. It included the towns of Baralaba, Blackwater, Duaringa, Dysart, Mount Morgan and Wowan as well as some of Rockhampton's outer suburbs. The electorate was first contested in 1992. An earlier district based in the same region was also called Fitzroy. It was first contested in 1888 and abolished in 1960. In 2008, Fitzroy was abolished—with effect at the 2009 state election—as a result of a redistribution undertaken by the Electoral Commission of Queensland. Its former territory and voters were divided between the districts of Callide, Gregory, Mirani and Rockhampton. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). The Assembly first sat in May 1860 and produced Australia's first Hansard in April 1864. Ancient Order Of Druids
The Ancient Order of Druids (AOD) is the senior neo-druid order in the world, and the oldest in continuous existence. It was formed in London, England, in 1781. It is represented in England, Wales, Scotland and the Commonwealth of Nations. Its motto is ''Justice, Philanthropy and Brotherly Love''. History 28 November 1781, in the King’s Arms tavern, near Oxford Street, some gentlemen decided to create an association basing the name and some of the iconography upon what was then believed about the ancient druids. Despite a few semantic similarities, initiatory aspects and the use of regalia, the AOD, since its origins, is completely distinct from Freemasonry. By the 1920s, two different stories were circling amongst members of the Order regarding its foundation. Mount Thompson Crematorium
Mount Thompson Memorial Gardens and Crematorium (formerly Brisbane Crematorium) includes a heritage-listed chapel (the West Chapel), columbaria and other features. It is located on north-western slopes of Mount Thompson in Brisbane, Australia. The street address is Nursery Road in Holland Park. It was established in 1934 as the first crematorium in Queensland. History The crematorium was the first in Queensland and was constructed after many decades of lobbying and public discussion, culminating in a group of citizens meeting and forming the Brisbane Crematorium Limited in 1930. Shares were sold in the company and a suitable site was purchased in 1933. Early designs were done by Richard Gailey, Junior (the son and business partner of Richard Gailey).
