Jim Berry (cartoonist)
James Osmyn Berry (January 16, 1932 – March 20, 2015) was an American comic strip artist. Berry was born in Chicago in 1932''Comics Buyer's Guide'' #1650; February 2009; Page 107 and attended Dartmouth College and Ohio Wesleyan University. In 1961, Berry began working for the Newspaper Enterprise Association. His most notable work may well be the syndicated editorial cartoon '' Berry's World'', distributed six days a week for more than 40 years beginning in 1963. There was also a Sunday comic strip version of the strip, about which he stated "I enjoy working in color on the Sunday pages and having all that space in which to draw". The National Headliner Award was presented to Berry in 1967. Berry won the National Cartoonists Society award for Best Special Feature in 1970 and 1972. He also produced the comic strip ''Benjy'' in 1974 and 1975. He wrote with Denny O'Neil the novel ''Dragon's Fist''. ''Comics Buyer's Guide'' (''CBG''; ), established in 1971, was the longest-running English-language periodical reporting on the American comic book industry. It awarded its annual Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Awards from 1983 to circa 2010. National Cartoonists Society
The National Cartoonists Society (NCS) is an organization of professional cartoonists in the United States. It presents the National Cartoonists Society Awards. The Society was born in 1946 when groups of cartoonists got together to entertain the troops. They enjoyed each other's company and decided to meet on a regular basis. NCS members work in many branches of the profession, including advertising, animation, newspaper comic strips and syndicated single-panel cartoons, comic books, editorial cartoons, gag cartoons, graphic novels, greeting cards, magazine and book illustration. Only recently has the National Cartoonists Society embraced web comics. Membership is limited to established professional cartoonists, with a few exceptions of outstanding persons in affiliated fields. The NCS is not a guild or labor union. Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter
Richard Dragon (or simply Dragon) is the alias of two fictional, comic book characters appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Although both incarnation differ in alignment, they're portrayed as extremely accomplished martial artists with connections to the League of Assassins. The first incarnation, Richard Drakunovski, was created by Dennis O'Neil and Jim Berry (cartoonist), James R. Berry in the novel ''Kung Fu Master, Richard Dragon: Dragon's Fists'' (1974) under the pseudonym "Jim Dennis". O'Neil later adapted the character for DC Comics in the comic book ''Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter''. A thief who was trained in martial arts and decided to use his skills for good, the character is considered one of DC Comic's premier martial artist in the DC Universe alongside peers such as Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva.
