Jim Anderson (footballer)
Jim Anderson (17 November 1869 – 13 September 1947) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of John Stewart Anderson (1846-1918), and Rebecca Irene Anderson (1835-1915), née Oswald, née Tyrer, James Anderson was born at Sandford, near Casterton, Victoria on 17 November 1869. He married Phoebe Faull Rodda (1871-1955) on 30 September 1896. Football Essendon (VFA) Recruited from Scotch College, Melbourne, then situated in East Melbourne, Anderson, a defender, played in three successive premiership teams in 1892-1894 during his time with Essendon in the VFA. Casterton, Victoria
Casterton is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Glenelg Highway, 42 kilometres east of the South Australian border, in the Shire of Glenelg. The Glenelg River passes through the town. Casterton is named after the village of Casterton in south-east Cumbria in England. History Prior to white settlement, Aboriginal people of the Konongwootong Gundidj clan lived in the local area. Johnny Graham (5 May 1875 – 16 August 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in both the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of George Graham (1837-1897), and Sarah Graham (1833-1898), née McPhail, John Alexander Graham was born at Geelong on 5 May 1875. Harry Wright (Australian Footballer)
Herbert Lovegrove Wright (13 April 1870 – 19 March 1950) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club around and during the years following the formation of the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Wright made his debut in 1894, and was part of the Essendon team that won the premiership that year. He won his second premiership in the 1897 season. During that season, he kicked the winning goal for Essendon in the first round final against Geelong. He also played in the first ever VFL Grand Final the following year. A centreman, Wright finished on the losing team on that occasion but took part in a winning Grand Final in 1901, winning his third premiership. Norman Waugh
Norman James "Norm" Waugh (10 May 1874 – 6 August 1934) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). In the first year of competition, he became one of the club's and leagues first premiership players, during the 1897 VFL season, under the captaincy of George Stuckey. Waugh made his debut against in Round 1 of the season, at Corio Oval. Waugh was also Essendon's first ever leading goalkicker in a VFL season. His 23 goals was the third highest in the League, behind Jack Leith of North Melbourne (26), and Eddy James of Geelong (27). He was the youngest son of Dr James S. George Vautin
George James Phillips Vautin (23 April 1869 – 9 January 1949) was an Australian sportsman who played Australian rules football for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and first-class cricket for both Tasmania and Victoria. Family Vautin was born in Orielton, Tasmania and died in the Mercy Hospital in East Melbourne. Football Vautin was from Tasmania and played at the City Football Club in Hobart. A rover, he represented his league in 1889 in an away series in Victoria, impressing the Essendon recruiters who signed him up for the 1892 VFA season and he was a key part of their premiership teams over the next three seasons. The VFL began in 1897 and Vautin was a member of Essendon's inaugural VFL premiership side. George Stuckey
George Stuckey (6 July 1871 – 15 March 1932) was an Australian rules footballer who played with and captained the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Stuckey played as both a wingman and half back during his career in the VFA and VFL and was the first captain of Essendon in the VFL; and, when Essendon won the (inaugural) VFL premiership in 1897, he also became the first VFL premiership captain. He remained captain until the end of the 1900 season and was a premiership player again in 1901. During his career, he represented Victoria at interstate football. Albert Ernest Salkeld (24 May 1876 – 26 May 1917) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Robert Salkeld (1833-1897), and Annie Salkeld (1837-1919), née Carey, Albert Ernest Salkeld was born at Clunes, Victoria on 24 May 1876.
