James Allison (pirate)
James Allison ( fl. 1689-1691) was a pirate and former logwood hauler, active near Cape Verde and the Bay of Campeche. Almost the entire record of Allison's piracy comes from trial records of a single incident, the seizure of the merchantman ''Good Hope''. History The 300-ton, 22-gun trader ''Good Hope'' had been renamed from the ''Fortune of Courland'', which had escaped Boston under suspicion of evading customs laws: in October 1689 the ship was seized, but the sailor put aboard to monitor the ship was thrown overboard. They sailed to Amsterdam later that year; by late January 1691 the ''Good Hope'' under Captain Jeremiah Tay arrived at Mayo in the Cape Verde islands to collect salt. In early February they were met by a 35-man sloop flying English flags. The visitor was Captain James Allison who claimed to be from New York, sailing out of South Carolina with a privateering commission against the French. James Whidden Allison
James Whidden Allison (December 1, 1795 – March 19, 1867) was a farmer and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Newport township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1836 to 1840. He was born in Horton, Kings County, Nova Scotia (later Wolfville), the son of John Allison and Nancy Whidden. His family moved to Newport around 1804. In 1821, Allison married Margaret Elder. He died in Mantua, Newport township at the age of 71. James Allison (theatre)
James Allison (1831 – 12 January 1890) was a theatre manager in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. He engaged and managed local and overseas opera, drama, circus, minstrel and variety companies throughout the Australasian colonies. History Allison was by trade a tailor, at which he worked for about 12 years, and had a shop in Castlereagh Street, Sydney. He was somehow associated with Harry Rickards' first visit to Australia in 1871. He may have worked as a travelling salesman for F. E. Hiscocks and Co. of Melbourne, publishers of Australian atlases from 1874. but was associated with Fred Hiscocks and Samuel Lazar from at least 1875 when they were operating the Queen's Theatre, Sydney, and managed Mr. and Mrs. J. James Allison (Wisconsin Politician)
James Allison (1858 – after 1919) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1912–13. Biography Allison was born on July 25, 1858 to Mary Crockett and William Allison on a farm in Maxville, Wisconsin that he would later own. In 1880, his father was also a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Allison attended high school in Durand, Wisconsin. In addition to farming, he was a Sunday school superintendent, teacher and conducted a creamery. On January 30, 1889, Allison married Florence Mace (1864–1921), a school teacher originally from Clinton county, New York, with whom he raised three sons. One of them, Robert M., would become Clerk of Maxville. Like his parents, Allison and his wife are interred in Maxville. Political career Allison was a member of the Assembly during the 1913 session. Barney Allison
James Barnett Allison (28 June 1880 – 31 March 1907) was an Irish rugby union international who played twelve Test matches for the Irish national team between 1899 and 1903. Born in Monaghan in what is now the Republic of Ireland, he was a student of Campbell College, Queen's University Belfast, and the University of Edinburgh, and played as a centre. Regarded as one of the most agile centres of his generation, match reports from the period show he gained a reputation for rigorous tackling and accurate kicking, scoring a drop goal for Ireland against England at the Athletic Ground, Richmond in 1900.
