Jibanananda Das Award
Jibanananda Das Award is a literary award for outstanding works of poetry in translation from Indian languages into English. The award has been instituted in the memory of the Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. It is conferred by Kolkata Poetry Confluence in collaboration with Antonym Magazine and Bhasha Samsad. Mohammad Zahid (poet)
Mohammad Zahid (born 1977) is an Indian poet, translator and editor from Anantnag, Kashmir. He is a recipient of Jibanananda Das Award for his translation of Kashmiri poetry into English. Early life and education Mohammad Zahid was born in 1977 at Anantnag in Kashmir Valley. His father Bashir Ahmad Makhdoomi and mother Badshah Gowher were scholars of English literature and Persian literature, respectively. Zahid had his early education in Anantnag and Srinagar. Later he joined Jammu & Kashmir Bank as an officer. Professional and literary career Despite being a banker by profession, Zahid has devoted his spare time to literature. Sahitya Akademi Prize For Translation
Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize or Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation is a literary honour in India, presented by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, given to "outstanding translations of creative and critical works" in 24 major Indian languages such as English, Rajasthani, Punjabi and the 22 listed languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution recognised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. The award, established in 1989, comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 50,000. Krishnamohan was the youngest translator to win the prize at age of 32 in Hindi and Kalachand Shastri is the oldest to win the prize at age of 89 in Manipuri. Tapan Kumar Pradhan
Tapan Kumar Pradhan (born 1972) is an Indian poet, writer and translator from Odisha. He is best known for his poem collection "Kalahandi" which was awarded second place in Sahitya Akademi's Golden Jubilee ''Indian Literature'' Translation Prize for Poetry in 2007. His other works include "Equation", "I, She and the Sea", "Wind in the Afternoon" and "Dance of Shiva". Early life and education Pradhan was born on 22 October 1972 at Shahid Nagar in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and spent his childhood in Kalahandi, Nuapada, Keonjhar and Laxmisagar. Munawwar Rana (born 26 November 1952) is an Indian Urdu poet. Early life Munawwar Rana was born in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, India in 1952, but spent most of his life in Kolkata, West Bengal. Poetic style He uses Hindi and Awadhi words and avoids Persian and Arabic. This makes his poetry accessible to Indian audiences and explains his popularity in the poetic meets held in non-Urdu areas. Sukirtharani
Sukirtharani is an Indian feminist poet who is widely acclaimed for her contribution to contemporary Dalit and Tamil literature. Sukirtharani is also a Tamil teacher at the Government Girls High School in Ranipet District, and has a master's degree in economics and Tamil literature. Her works include six published collection of poems. The works themselves have been described as celebratory towards the female body and a chastisement of the oppressive caste system which encapsulate a dual experience of being born both a female and a dalit. Snehaprava Das (born 10 October 1955) is an Indian writer and translator in the Odia language. She is a pioneer translator of several classic works from the Odia language into English. She has also translated several world classics into the Odia language. Her English translations rank among the top translated works from the Odia language. Biography Snehaprava obtained her Master's degree in English literature and doctorate in Translation Studies and Comparative Literature from Utkal University. As an associate professor she has taught English literature at several institutions of higher learning. She also served as Principal of Binayak Acharya College, Berhampur. Saroj Bal
Saroj Bal (born 2 February 1976) is a Odia language poet from India. He is also a translator and editor of several literary journals. Biography Saroj Bal was born on 2 February 1976 at village Arjunbindha in Bhadrak district of Odisha, India. He completed his post graduate education in Odia literature from Utkal University. He has pursued creative writing as his career, besides working as a digital designer, musician, journalist and literary activist. He is also a publisher with his own publication house "Time Pass". He has designed several books as a graphic illustrator.
