The Jewelry District is a section of Downtown Los Angeles where a variety of jewelry, jeweled products are sold. History The Jewelry District is predominantly made up of early twentieth-century buildings, when the number of registered vehicles in the county grew from 160,000 to 842,000 in a span of 10 years. Half of the area falls under the greater Historic Core, Los Angeles, "Historic Core" of Downtown Los Angeles, which spans between Hill and Main Streets, and 3rd and 9th streets. The median year in which the buildings in the area were built was 1923. The oldest building to remain in the district is located on 543 South Broadway Avenue—a three-story, 32,600-square-foot commercial space that is now occupied by Teresa's Bridals. State Theatre (Los Angeles)
The State Theatre, formerly known as Loew's State Theatre, at 703 S. Broadway, is a historic movie theatre which opened in November 1921 in the Broadway Theatre District of Downtown Los Angeles. History The State Theatre was designed by Charles Peter Weeks and William Day, of architectural firm Weeks & Day, in a Spanish Renaissance style. The theatre is incorporated into a 12-story Beaux Arts style 1921 office block called the United Building, situated at the intersection of S. Broadway and 7th St. The building extends half a block along 7th St and one-third of a block along Broadway and is one of the city's largest brick-clad buildings. The theatre originally boasted two marquees with entrances on both Broadway and 7th. The 7th St entrance was closed in 1936. Pershing Square station is an underground rapid transit (known locally as a subway) station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has a street-level stop for the northbound J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street between 4th and 5th Street. The B Line (formerly Red Line from 1993–2020) is a fully underground rapid transit line operating in Los Angeles, running between Downtown Los Angeles and North Hollywood. Clifton's Cafeteria
Clifton's Cafeteria, once part of a chain of eight Clifton's restaurants, was the oldest surviving cafeteria-style eatery in Los Angeles and the largest public cafeteria in the world when it closed in 2018. Founded in 1931 by Clifford Clinton, the design of the restaurants included exotic decor and facades that were "kitschy and theatrical", and would eventually include multi-story fake redwood trees, stuffed lions, neon plants, and a petrified wood bar. Some considered Clifton's as a precursor to the first tiki bars. The name was created by combining "Clifford" and "Clinton" to produce "Clifton's". The second Clifton's facility opened in 1935 at 648 S Broadway.
