Jewel Records (Cincinnati Record Label)
Jewel Records was a record label which discs were pressed by the Scranton Button Company. Jewel is one of the big three record companies out of Cincinnati, Ohio. The two most famous, King Records and Fraternity Records, were responsible for several hits over the years from a wide range of genres. Two prominent figures who recorded for Jewel were Lonnie Mack, who did two singles for the label in 1970, and Albert Washington. Jewel Records (New York Record Label)
Jewel Records was a record label started in 1927 by the Plaza Music Company.With other Plaza properties, it became part of the American Record Corporation in 1929. It released records until 1932. Musicians on the label included Roy Collins, Hugh Donovan, Ernie Hare, Larry Holton, Billie Jones, the Dixie Jazz Band, and the Yankee Ten Orchestra. Jewel Records (Shreveport Record Label)
Jewel Records was an American independent record label, founded in 1963 by Stan Lewis and based in Shreveport, Louisiana. It had two subsidiary labels, Paula and Ronn. The first of many retail record stores, called Stan's Record Shop, was opened in 1948. Later, Stan Lewis purchased and reissued the catalogues of Cobra Records, Chief Records, USA Records and JOB Records. Among the artists for Jewel/Paula/Ronn were Buster Benton, Frank Frost, Lowell Fulson, John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, John Fred and his Playboy Band, Toussaint McCall, The Uniques, Jerry McCain, Memphis Slim, Little Johnny Taylor, and Justin Wilson. For a short time, the Paula label was distributed by Chess Records. Je–Wel
Je–Wel, latterly renamed Jewel Records, was an independent American record label founded in Odessa, Texas, in 1955 by Weldon Rogers (1927–2004), himself a singer, and Chester Calvin Oliver (1907–2000). Je–Wel is known for having engaged, recorded, and produced fledgling artists from West Texas at the dawn of rock and roll in the 1950s. JE-WEL 101 Je–Wel's most notable production was a recording of The Teen Kings (with Roy Orbison) performing "Ooby Dooby". The session was recorded March 4, 1956, at Norman Petty's studio in Clovis, New Mexico. "Ooby Dooby" was on the B side and " Tryin' to Get to You" was on the A Side. The record – manufactured in Phoenix, Arizona – was issued as JE-WEL 101 around March 16, 1956. According to the authorised biography of Roy Orbison, this was Orbison's first record release.
