Jesús Géles
Jesús Géles (born February 22, 1988) is a Colombian former professional boxer who competed from 2008 to 2014 and held the WBO junior flyweight title in 2011. Professional career Géles defeated Omar Soto to win the interim WBO junior flyweight title by majority decision on October 30, 2010 after original opponent Ramón García Hirales pulled out. He was then promoted to full WBO champion on March 11, 2011, after Giovani Segura vacated the title. Géles lost the title in his first defense, a rematch against García Hirales, on April 30, 2011, by fourth-round knockout. Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. The World Boxing Council (WBC) decided to resurrect this division in the 1970s. The first champion in this division was Franco Udella, who won the WBC title in 1975. Moisés Fuentes Rubio (20 September 1985 – 24 November 2022) was a Mexican professional boxer who held the WBO minimumweight title from 2011 to 2013 and the WBO interim junior flyweight title from 2013 to 2014. Professional career On 6 February 2010, Fuentés won a ten-round unanimous decision over Mexican Eduardo González to capture the interim WBC Youth minimumweight title in Guadalajara, Jalisco. WBO minimumweight champion On 27 August 2011, Fuentés won a twelve-round split decision over Raúl García to capture the WBO minimumweight title. The bout was held at the Auditorio Benito Juárez, in Guadalajara. Personal life and death Fuentes suffered a blood clot in his brain as the result of a 2021 fight with David Cuellar. Interim Title
An interim championship is an alternate title that is awarded by the sanctioning bodies of professional boxing, and in other combat sports such as kickboxing, professional wrestling, and mixed martial arts. Occasionally, the champion of a particular weight division is temporarily unable to defend his championship because of medical, legal, or other reasons beyond the competitor's control. When this case occurs, two highly ranked contenders may fight for an interim championship of the same weight division – leading to two champions existing in the same weight division simultaneously. Once the original champion can return, at the discretion of the sanctioning body or promotion concerned, they must defend their title against the interim champion - who will relinquish their interim title to fight for the full world title.
