Jesus Revolution
''Jesus Revolution'' is a 2023 American Christian drama film directed by Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle. Based on the autobiographical book of the same name co-written by Greg Laurie, the film follows Laurie (Joel Courtney), Christian hippie Lonnie Frisbee ( Jonathan Roumie), and pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer) as they take part in the Jesus movement in California during the late 1960s. Anna Grace Barlow and Kimberly Williams-Paisley also star. The film was theatrically released in the United States on February 24, 2023, by Lionsgate. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $53 million worldwide against a production budget of $15 million. Lonnie Frisbee
Lonnie Ray Frisbee (June 6, 1949 – March 12, 1993) was an American Charismatic evangelist and self-described "seeing prophet" in the late 1960s and 1970s. He maintained a hippie appearance and struggled with homosexuality (according to his own report). He was notable as a minister and evangelist in the signs and wonders movement of the 1970s and 1980s. Frisbee was a key figure in the Jesus movement. Harvest Christian Fellowship is a Baptist Evangelical multi-site megachurch based in Riverside, California, affiliated with the Calvary Chapel Association and the Southern Baptist Convention. ''Jesus freak'' is a term arising from the late 1960s and early 1970s counterculture and is frequently used as a pejorative for those involved in the Jesus movement. As Tom Wolfe illustrates in ''The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test'', the term "freak" with a preceding qualifier was a strictly neutral term and described any counterculture member with a specific interest in a given subject; hence "acid freak" and "Jesus freak". The term "freak" was in common-enough currency that Hunter S. Thompson's failed bid for sheriff of Pitkin County, Colorado, was as a member of the "Freak Power" party. Timothy Francis Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) was an American psychologist and author known for his strong advocacy of psychedelic drugs. Evaluations of Leary are polarized, ranging from bold oracle to publicity hound. He was "a hero of American consciousness", according to Allen Ginsberg, and Tom Robbins called him a "brave neuronaut". Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer and musician. Love Song (band)
Love Song was one of the most prominent Jesus music bands, and one of the first Christian rock bands. They released two studio albums—''Love Song'' (1972) and ''Final Touch'' (1974)—and one live album—''Feel the Love'' (1977)—before disbanding. They subsequently released ''Welcome Back'' in 1994, remastered versions of the three early albums and ''Love Song: The Book of Love'' as a box set in 2010. Background Love Song was founded in 1970 by Chuck Girard, Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax, and Fred Field, prior to the conversion of any of the band members.
