History Jessville was built in 1929 by William Ngartse Thomas Tam, and named in honour of his wife, Jessie TO Pui-Chun. Conservation Facing threat of demolition, Jessville was declared a "Declared monuments of Hong Kong#Proposed monuments, Proposed monument" in 2007. Renaissance Architecture
Renaissance architecture is the European architecture of the period between the early 15th and early 16th centuries in different regions, demonstrating a conscious revival and development of certain elements of Ancient Greece, ancient Greek and Ancient Rome, Roman thought and material culture. Stylistically, Renaissance architecture followed Gothic architecture and was succeeded by Baroque architecture. Pok Fu Lam
Pok Fu Lam or Pokfulam is a residential area on Hong Kong Island, at the western end of the Southern District. It is a valley between Victoria Peak and Mount Kellett, around Telegraph Bay. Pok Fu Lam can claim several ''firsts'' in the history of Hong Kong: It was the place where Hong Kong's floral emblem, ''Bauhinia blakeana'', was first discovered; the site for Hong Kong's first reservoir, Pok Fu Lam Reservoir (1883, now part of a country park), and the site for Hong Kong's first dairy farm by five investors, including Sir Patrick Manson in 1885. The farm supplied not only milk, but cattle to Hong Kong, and later became Dairy Farm. However, it no longer exists in Pok Fu Lam. Pok Fu Lam is connected to Lung Fu Shan, Sai Ying Pun and Aberdeen by the Pok Fu Lam Road. It's also indirectly connected to the Mid-Levels. Pok Fu Lam also overlooks Lamma Island. Pok Fu Lam Road, or Pokfulam Road, is a four-lane road in Hong Kong. Built on Hong Kong Island, the road runs between Sai Ying Pun and Wah Fu, through Pok Fu Lam. Description It runs south from Sai Ying Pun, passing University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong along the Belcher's, with a road junction with Pokfield Road. The vegetation in this area is largely preserved, unlike many roads in the urban built-up areas of Hong Kong. Further south, the Pok Fu Lam playground, a public playground, is located near the junction with Mount Davis Road in Mount Davis, Hong Kong, Mount Davis. William Ngartse Thomas Tam
William Ngar-tse Thomas Tam, OBE. JP, (21 July 1900 – 8 April 1976) was a magistrate and member of the Legislative Council in Hong Kong. Biography W.N.Thomas Tam ( 譚雅士 ) was born in Hong Kong on 21 July 1900, to a native of Hoi-ping (開平 Kai-ping), named Tam Lung-foo (譚龍虎) alias Tam Bok-choi, who had laboured in California from the age of 16 for nearly 20 years, before relocating to Hong Kong. His mother, Emma Tsang Fook (曾福), was the daughter of a merchant from Po On County. He was junior to two fostered brothers, and was christened Willie Thomas (譚威利) by his western-orientated father, a Christian, who was to christen all his children with the surname of “Thomas”. Declared monuments of Hong Kong are places, structures or buildings legally declared to receive the highest level of protection.
