Jessica Woodard
Jessica Woodard (born February 4, 1995) is an American track and field athlete who competes in shot put. Early life Raised in the Marlton section of Evesham Township, New Jersey, Woodard attended Cherokee High School in New Jersey. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was an NCAA Outdoor First Team All-American in 2018, as well as Big 12 champion both indoor and outdoor in 2018. Career Woodard finished third at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships throwing 19.40m. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon Woodard was one of three home athletes who reached the final of the women's shot put with a throw of 19.08. Woodard finished in eighth place at the World Championships behind compatriot gold medalist Chase Ealey and ahead of Minnesotan Maggie Ewen in ninth. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. Maggie Ewen (born Magdalyn Ewen; September 23, 1994) is an American shot putter. Maggie Ewen earned bronze medal when she threw the discus in Toronto at 2018 NACAC Championships, placed fourth in the shot put at 2019 World Athletics Championships and competed in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. Ewen set collegiate outdoor records in shot put and hammer. Professional Maggie Ewen won gold medal in the shot put and earned bronze medal in the discus in Toronto at 2018 NACAC Championships and in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics to place 21st. Rabat
Rabat (, also , ; ar, الرِّبَاط, er-Ribât; ber, ⵕⵕⴱⴰⵟ, ṛṛbaṭ) is the capital city of Morocco and the country's seventh largest city with an urban population of approximately 580,000 (2014) and a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million. 2024 Meeting International Mohammed VI D'Athlétisme
The 2024 Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme was the 15th edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Morocco. Held on 19 May at the Stade de Marrakech, it was the fourth leg of the 2024 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. Though the meeting is typically held in Rabat, in 2024 it was held in Marrakesh. At the meeting, Prudence Sekgodiso set an 800 m world lead while Shericka Jackson won her Diamond League opener at 200 m, although her time of 22.82 seconds was not as fast as expected. Results Athletes competing in the Diamond League disciplines earned extra compensation and points which went towards qualifying for the 2024 Diamond League finals. First place earned 8 points, with each step down in place earning one less point than the previous, until no points are awarded in 9th place or lower. 2024 Diamond League
The 2024 Diamond League is the fifteenth season of the annual series of outdoor track and field meetings, organised by World Athletics. The competition is a revision to the top level athletics series since Diamond League foundation in 2010. The number of Diamond Discipline events is 32. Each meeting will host a number of Diamond Discipline events and some of these events will not be broadcast. Events losing Diamond Discipline status will feature on the World Athletics Continental Tour, the second tier of track and field meetings. Schedule The following fifteen meetings are scheduled to be included in the 2024 season. |
