Jessica Reznicek
Jessica Rae Reznicek (born July 25, 1981) is a Catholic Worker Movement, Catholic Worker and climate activist from Iowa. On June 29, 2021, she was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for a series of attacks on the Dakota Access Pipeline. Early life Reznicek grew up in Adel, then Perry, Iowa. She was raised Catholic, but was not a regular churchgoer after her childhood, leaving the faith while in her teens. Her father worked for the sheriff's department. After high school, she drove a fork lift at a Hy-Vee distribution center and took a job at a country club. It was there that she met her future husband, whom she described as a "millionaire businessman." By her mid-20s, she was married to this pharmacist in the Des Moines area and was studying political science at Simpson College. Catholic Worker Movement
The Catholic Worker Movement is a collection of autonomous communities of Catholics and their associates founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in the United States in 1933. Its aim is to "live in accordance with the justice and charity of Jesus Christ". One of its guiding principles is hospitality towards those on the margin of society, based on the principles of communitarianism and personalism. To this end, the movement claims over 240 local Catholic Worker communities providing social services. Each house has a different mission, going about the work of social justice in its own way, suited to its local region. Catholic Worker houses are not official organs of the Catholic Church, and their activities, inspired by Day's example, may be more or less overtly religious in tone and inspiration depending on the particular institution.
