Jesse Jackson Millsaps
Jesse Jackson Millsaps (March 26, 1827 - January 9, 1900) was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War, a farmer, and a state legislator who served in the Arkansas House of Representatives representing Van Buren County, Arkansas in 1868 and 1885. Millsaps was a member of the 1868 Arkansas Constitutional Convention, where he was listed as a 41 year old farmer who had been in Arkansas for eight years. He was also a member of the 1868 General Assembly where he was a representative for the 4th district. In 1873 he was justice of the peace in Van Buren County. He and other 1885 House representatives and officers were included in a composite photograph, where according to the captioning he was 57 and had been in Arkansas for 24 years, originally from North Carolina North Carolina () is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. Arkansas House Of Representatives
The Arkansas State House of Representatives is the lower house of the Arkansas General Assembly, the state legislature of the US state of Arkansas. The House is composed of 100 members elected from an equal amount of constituencies across the state. Each district has an average population of 29,159 according to the 2010 federal census. Members are elected to two-year terms and, since the 2014 Amendment to the Arkansas Constitution, limited to sixteen years cumulative in either house. Van Buren County, Arkansas
Van Buren County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,295. The county seat is Clinton. The county was formed on November 11, 1833, and named for Martin Van Buren, President of the United States, who was Vice President at the time of the county's formation. Van Buren County was a dry county until November 3, 2020 as the county residents voted to make it a wet county. Van Buren County should not be confused with the city of Van Buren, which is located approximately 100 miles to the west in Crawford County just north of Fort Smith.
