Jesse Coopwood
Jesse Coopwood (July 25, 1928 – December 7, 2001) was an American jazz radio broadcaster. Broadcaster Once dubbed as having "the perfect voice for radio", Coopwood was a jazz and talk radio personality in Gary, Indiana, whose career spanned five decades. During that time, Coopwood appeared on several Gary radio stations, including WMPP, WGRY, WWCA and WLTH. Producer He produced several jazz recordings of various artists for the Chance Records label. Also a union organizer and civil rights activist, Coopwood is included in the archives of The Civil Rights History Project in the Library of Congress. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jackson Five
The Jackson 5 (sometimes stylized as the Jackson 5ive, also known as the Jacksons) are an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. The group was founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana, and for most of their career consisted of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. They were managed by their father Joe Jackson. The group were among the first African American performers to attain a crossover following. The Jackson 5 performed in talent shows and clubs on the Chitlin' Circuit, then signed with Steeltown Records in 1967 and released two singles. In 1968, they left Steeltown Records and signed with Motown, where they were the first group to debut with four consecutive number one hits on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart with the songs "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save", and " I'll Be There". The ''Post-Tribune'' of Northwest Indiana (formerly the ''Gary Post-Tribune'') is a daily newspaper headquartered in Crown Point, Indiana, Merrillville, Indiana, United States. It serves the Northwest Indiana region, and is owned by the Chicago Tribune Media Group. History The paper was founded in 1907 as ''The Gary Weekly''. It was established to serve steel industry residents. On September 7, 1908, the weekly became a daily and changed its name to the ''Gary Tribune''. Its founder, J.R. and H.B. Snyder, purchased the ''Gary Evening Post'' from Gary mayor Thomas Knotts on March 9, 1910. In July 1921 the two papers were merged producing the ''Post-Tribune'' a weekday evening and weekend morning paper. In August 1966, the Snyder heirs sold the publication to Northwest Publications, Inc., a subsidiary of Ridder Publications. Michael Jackson Memorial Service
A public memorial service for Michael Jackson was held on July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, twelve days after his death. The event was preceded by a private family service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park's Hall of Liberty in Hollywood Hills, and followed by a gathering in Beverly Hills for Jackson's family and close friends. Jackson's closed, solid-bronze casket, plated with 14-karat gold and lined with blue velvet, which was not originally expected to be at the memorial service, arrived just before 10:00 a.m. local time when it was placed in front of the stage.
