Jesse Brown (journalist)
Jesse Benjamin Brown is a Canadian journalist, media personality, and businessperson. In 2013, he founded the ''Canadaland'' podcast that grew into a podcasting company. Brown's 2014 investigative reports with Kevin Donovan, published by the ''Toronto Star'', focussed on various women who claimed to have endured non-consensual violent conduct and workplace sexual harassment from Canadian radio and television personality Jian Ghomeshi. Ghomeshi was later acquitted of all charges at his trial. Early life Born to a Canadian Jewish family and raised in Toronto, Brown attended Northern Secondary School. ''Search Engine'' was a weekly Canadian radio show that aired on CBC Radio One, then as a dedicated podcast distributed by the CBC and finally by TVOntario. It was hosted by Jesse Brown, who also co-produced the show with Geoff Siskind and Andrew Parker. Cory Doctorow, novelist and editor of Boing Boing, was also a regular contributor. Michael Enright (broadcaster)
Michael Enright (born 1943) is a Canadian journalist and radio broadcaster. A high school dropout, Enright became a journalist after taking a University of Toronto extension course. As a journalist he held numerous positions at organizations such as ''The Globe and Mail'', ''Time'' and ''Maclean's''. He is best known for his long tenure as a CBC Radio host. Enright was the host of CBC Radio One's ''The Sunday Edition'' from 2000 to 2020 and previously hosted ''As It Happens'' from 1987 until 1997 and co-hosted '' This Morning'' from 1997 to 2000. From 2009 until 2019, he hosted the archive show '' Rewind'' on CBC Radio One. He retired from CBC radio in 2020. Lad Culture
Lad culture (also the new lad, laddism) was a media-driven, principally British and Irish subculture of the 1990s and early 2000s. The image of the "lad"—or "new lad"—was that of a generally middle class figure espousing attitudes typically attributed to the working classes. The subculture involved heterosexual young men assuming an anti-intellectual position, shunning cultural pursuits and sensitivity in favour of drinking, sport, sex and sexism. Lad culture was diverse and popular involving literature, magazines, film, music and television, with ironic humour being a defining trope. ''Saturday Night'' was a Canadian general interest magazine. It was founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1887 and was Canada's oldest general interest magazine. The magazine ceased publication in 2005. History ''Saturday Night'' was first established in 1887 as a weekly broadsheet newspaper about public affairs and the arts, and was later expanded into a general interest magazine. The editor, Edmund E. Sheppard, was prevented from editing a daily newspaper due to an earlier libel action in regards to an incident involving Louis Riel. Additionally, Blue laws in Toronto prevented publication on Sunday. So, in its first years, the paper was restricted to being a weekly publication, published on Saturdays, hence the name. The ''Review of Journalism'' (formerly the ''Ryerson Review of Journalism'') is a Canadian magazine, published annually by final-year journalism students at Toronto Metropolitan University.
