Jesse Aungles
Jesse Aungles (born 8 June 1995) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He represented Australia at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and the 2020 Summer Paralympics Personal He was born on 8 June in 1995 in Adelaide, South Australia. Aungles right leg was malformed at birth, which meant one femur was 10% shorter than the other and finished at the knee and his left leg was missing the fibula bone, the ankle, and he had only one toe on the foot. His left foot was amputated and his hip reconstructed at age one. He attended Unley High School. He has been studying a Bachelor of International Relations, Politics and Commerce at the University of Canberra since 2014. Career His first swimming competition was at the age of nine. S8 (classification)
S8, SB7, SM8 are Paralympic sports#Classification, disability swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. This class includes a number of different disabilities including people with amputations and cerebral palsy. The classification is governed by the International Paralympic Committee, and competes at the Paralympic Games. Definition This classification is for Swimming (sport), swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. The number following indicates degree of disability, with one being the most severely physically impaired to ten having the least amount of physical disability. Unley High School
Unley High School, located in Netherby, South Australia. History Unley High School was founded in 1910 as one of the first public high schools to be established after Adelaide High School in 1908. Initially it was under the control of the Headmaster of the Unley Primary School, and was first housed as part of that school in the suburb of Unley. In 1915 the school was granted independence from Unley Primary. Ben Gates was appointed its first headmaster, and he remained at the school until 1940. During his headmastership the school became renowned for its discipline and high academic standards. An early link was forged with the Australian rules football club, Sturt. The colours of the school, light and dark blue, were also the colours of the football club. During its first decade the school moved south to new buildings in Kyre Avenue, Mitcham. Ahmed Kelly
Ahmed Kelly (born 18 November 1991) is an Iraqi-born Australian Paralympic swimmer. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, his third games, he won the silver medal in the Men's 150 m individual medley SM3 . Personal Nicknamed "Liquid Nails", Kelly was born on 18 November 1991 in Baghdad, Iraq with a double arm and leg deficiency. Until the age of seven, he lived in at Baghdad's Mother Teresa Orphanage with his brother, Emmanuel who has a similar disability. Moira Kelly, on her own, met the brothers in 1998 and with her parents' help, brought them to Victoria, Australia in 2000 to get medical care for their disability. Kelly's treatment involved having parts of his legs removed that were deficient, and then being fitted with prosthesis. Moira adopted the brothers in 2000. In 2009, he became an Australian citizen. Matthew Haanappel
Matthew Anthony "Matt" Haanappel, (born 21 May 1994) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He was born in Wantirna, Victoria and resides in the far eastern suburbs of Melbourne. He has cerebral palsy right hemiplegia. Haanappel has represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships, the 2014 Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships, the 2016 Summer Paralympics, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He represents the Camberwell Grammar School Aquatic club. Personal Haanappel was born on 21 May 1994, with cerebral palsy right hemiplegia as a result of a prenatal stroke. His disability severely impairs his fine motor skills and dexterity due to the spasticity in his right hand. Matt Levy
Matthew John Levy, (born 11 January 1987) is a retired Australian Paralympic swimmer. At five Paralympic Games from 2004 to 2020, he has won three gold, one silver and six bronze medals. Personal Levy has cerebral palsy and a vision impairment due to being born 15 weeks premature. He attended St Andrew's Cathedral School in Sydney. He works at Westpac Bank, is on the board of directors of the New South Wales disability organisation Ability Options, and lives in Sydney. He completed a Bachelor of Business at Swinburne University of Technology in 2015 and a Master of Business Administration at the University of Canberra in 2021. Rick Pendleton, OAM (born 12 January 1985) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer from Sydney. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, his fourth Games. Michael Anderson (swimmer)
Michael Anderson, (born 12 July 1987) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer who has won gold, silver and bronze medals at the three Paralympics from 2008 to 2016. Personal Anderson has nerve damage to his leg caused by meningitis and a hearing impairment. He was born and grew up in Bellingen in the Northern Rivers. He moved to the Gold Coast to study for a Bachelor of Sport Management degree at Griffith University. Blake Cochrane, (born 25 January 1991) is a retired Australian Paralympic swimmer. He won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, two gold medals at the 2012 London Paralympics, a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, and a silver and one bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Oliver Hynd
Oliver William Hynd MBE, known as Ollie, (born 27 October 1994 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire) is a British swimmer. He competed in the Paralympics as a class 8 swimmer, having neuromuscular myopathy and associated limb deformities. In 2018, following reclassification protocols, Hynd moved into the S9 class, but remained in SB8 for breaststroke. Hynd made his international debut at the 2011 IPC European Championships where he won the 200 m individual medley, beating his older brother Sam's previous European record. In the 400 m freestyle, he finished in second place just behind brother Sam. Hynd won a gold medal in the SM8 200m individual medley at the 2012 London Paralympics. He also claimed a silver in the S8 men's 400m freestyle and a bronze in the S8 men's 100m backstroke.
