Jesse (song)
"Jesse" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon. Produced by Mike Mainieri, the song served as the lead single from Simon's ninth studio album, ''Come Upstairs'' (1980). The song is told in first-person about the narrator's disdain for her former lover, Jesse, who has just moved back to town. She vows to have nothing to do with him, "Don't let him near me, don't let him touch me, don't let him please me," she sings. She asks her friends to remind her of how he has wronged her, because she fears she'll end up letting her guard down and fall back under his spell. She ends up going back on her promise to herself and the two rekindle their romance. Carly Elisabeth Simon (born June 25, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter, memoirist, and children's author. Anthony Frederick Levin (born June 6, 1946) is an American musician and composer, specializing in electric bass, Chapman Stick and upright bass. He also sings and plays synthesizer. Levin is best known for his work with King Crimson (since 1981) and Peter Gabriel (since 1977). Don Grolnick (September 23, 1947 – June 1, 1996) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and record producer. He was a member of the groups Steps Ahead and Dreams, both with Michael Brecker, and played often with the Brecker Brothers. ''Anthology'' is a two-disc career retrospective compilation box set by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Rhino Entertainment, on November 5, 2002. Simon personally selected all the songs for this collection. Over the course of the two discs, every one of her studio albums (up until that point) is chronologically represented with at least one song (not including her just-released Christmas album ''Christmas Is Almost Here'', or her 1993 opera, '' Romulus Hunt: A Family Opera'', on which she only actually performs on one track). The booklet features numerous photographs from Simon's archives, as well as extensive liner notes by Jack Mauro, a lifelong fan of Simon's.
