Jess C. Denious (July 14, 1879 – December 1, 1953) served as Lieutenant Governor of Kansas from 1943 until 1947. Early life Denious was born in Mogadore, Ohio to Oliver and Martha Denious. The family moved to Kansas at the age of five, first living in Galesburg before moving to Erie. He moved to Colorado for a year before attending Drake University. Andrew Frank Schoeppel
Andrew Frank Schoeppel (November 23, 1894 – January 21, 1962) was an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He was the 29th governor of Kansas from 1943 to 1947 and a U.S. Senator from 1949 until his death. He was born in 1894 in Claflin, Kansas, and died in 1962 of abdominal cancer at the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Maryland. Early life and political career Schoeppel was born near Claflin, Kansas, to immigrant parents from Bohemia. He attended public school and the University of Kansas, but left college to join the Naval Air Service during World War I. After returning home, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School in 1922 and was admitted to the Kansas bar the next year. His early political life began as county attorney in Ness County, Kansas, and was one of the early local officials for Ness City. Bristow, who later was elected U.S. senator, and Henry J. Allen, who later became an editor at the ''Wichita Beacon'', Kansas governor, and U.S. senator decided to buy the weekly ''Evening Ottawa'' and turn it into a daily newspaper. The ''Evening Ottawa'' was free at first, distributed to nearly all of Ottawa, north and south of the Marais des Cygnes River. This was to give the residents of Ottawa a feel for the new newspaper. Then it was made into a subscription for ten cents a week. The newspaper was four pages in a six-column format. When Bristow and Allen broke up their partnership in 1907, Allen sold it to Ralph A. The Kansas Senate is the upper house of the Kansas Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. State of Kansas. It is composed of 40 senators elected from single-member districts, each with a population of at least 60,000 inhabitants. Members of the Senate are elected to a four-year term.
