Jerzy Barycki
Jerzy (Jerry) Barycki (b. March 15, 1949 in Wysokie Mazowieckie, Poland) is a Polish-Canadian water resources engineer and civic activist. Career Graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology, Department of Water Resources (1974), worked with Hydroprojekt Warszawa (1974–1976) and PBI Inżynieria Warszawa (1976–1980), where he supervised Warsaw’s constructions, including the building of infrastructure for the Wilga and Orlik housing estates. Living in Canada from 1982, he worked professionally on construction, inspection and planning of municipal infrastructure in Windsor, Ontario. He worked for the construction firm Scofan Contractors and the Consulting Office of N.K. Becker & Associates and from 1990-2010 supervised the construction of several dozen housing subdivisions in LaSalle, Ontario. Wysokie Mazowieckie
Wysokie Mazowieckie is a town in north-eastern Poland, in Podlaskie Voivodeship. It is the capital of Wysokie Mazowieckie County. Population is 10,034 . In town there is one of the biggest dairy companies in this part of Europe - " Mlekovita". in 2018, the city was among the richest municipalities in Poland, has ranked 11th in the country Jewish cemetery The Jewish cemetery in Wysokie Mazowieckie had been devastated in World War II. It was restored in 2006 and, protected by a fence, is maintained regularly by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The Jewish cemetery contains a memorial to local Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust. The memorial monument was vandalized in August 2012. Polish Diaspora
The Polish diaspora comprises Poles and people of Polish heritage or origin who live outside Poland. The Polish diaspora is also known in modern Polish as ''Polonia'', the name for Poland in Latin and many Romance languages. There are roughly 20,000,000 people of Polish ancestry living outside Poland, making the Polish diaspora one of the largest in the world and one of the most widely dispersed. Reasons for the displacement include border shifts, forced expulsions, resettlement by voluntary and forced exile, and political or economic emigration. Substantial populations of Polish ancestry can be found in their native region of Central and Eastern Europe and in many other European countries as well as in the Americas and Australia. Casimir Gzowski
Sir Kazimierz Stanisław Gzowski, (March 5, 1813 – August 24, 1898), was an engineer known for his work on a wide variety of Canadian railways as well as work on the Welland Canal. He also served as acting Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1896 to 1897. Life and career Gzowski was born in Saint Petersburg to a noble Polish father, Count Stanisław Gzowski, who was then serving as a Captain in the Russian Imperial Guard. During the Polish November Uprising he served as combat engineer with the rank of podporuchik in the Polish army under command of Józef Dwernicki against the Russians. After their defeat he escaped to Austria and as an unwanted political prisoner was deported by the Austrians to the USA. Later his family also emigrated. He knew no English, but began to study law and was admitted into practice. Senate Of Poland
The Senate ( pl, Senat) is the upper house of the Parliament of Poland, Polish parliament, the lower house being the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Sejm. The history of the Polish Senate stretches back over 500 years; it was one of the first constituent bodies of a bicameral parliament in Europe and existed without hiatus until the final Partitions of Poland, partition of the Polish state in 1795. The contemporary Senate is composed of 100 senators elected by a universal ballot and is headed by Marshal of the Senate (''Marszałek Senatu''). The incumbent Marshal of the Senate is Tomasz Grodzki. Sovereign's Medal For Volunteers
The Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers (french: Médaille du souverain pour les bénévoles) is a Canadian medal intended to honour volunteers who have made a significant and continual contribution to their community, either in Canada or abroad. The medal was initially conceived by Governor General Roméo LeBlanc as the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award and created in November 1995, to award volunteers. It was replaced on 15 July 2015 by the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers. Eligibility and selection The medal is intended for an individual whose unpaid, voluntary contributions, behind-the-scenes, provide extraordinary help or care to individuals or groups in the community.
