JT Group Limited (doing business as JT) is the parent company of several subsidiaries including Jersey Telecom Limited and Wave Telecom Limited. Jersey Telecom is the former monopoly operator in the Bailiwick of Jersey. JT provides telecommunications, Internet access and other services, mostly within the Channel Islands. History In 1972 legislation passed in Jersey, which led the States of Jersey to take over the country's telephone exchanges from the British Post Office. A state monopoly was formed through the Telecommunications Board in 1973, and remained under state control until 2003, when the market was opened to competition. St Helier (; Jèrriais: ; french: Saint-Hélier) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands in the English Channel. Fon Wireless Ltd. is a for-profit company incorporated and registered in the United Kingdom that provides wireless services. Fon was founded in Madrid, Spain, in 2006, by Martín Varsavsky where it headquarters most of its operations. Fon started out by building its Wi-Fi network through devices called "foneras". Members, whom the company called "Foneros", agreed to share a part of their bandwidth as a Wi-Fi signal, so that they could connect to other members' hotspots. As the company evolved, it shifted its focus to working with mobile operators and telecommunication providers, and expanded from deploying residential Wi-Fi to providing access and technology to carriers and service providers. Newtel Limited (formerly known as Jersey Cable) is the operator of a cable television network in Jersey, Channel Islands. Newtel Solutions also provides telecommunications services including telephony and broadband. Newtel was, prior to 1998, known as ''Jersey Cable Limited'', a company founded by Peter Funk in 1988. It acquired the former ''Rediffusion (Channel Islands) Limited'' cable network from ''British Electric Traction Limited'' in 1988. Airtel-Vodafone is a mobile network operator located in Jersey and Guernsey (Channel Islands), and is a joint venture between Bharti Airtel and Vodafone. Airtel-Vodafone was first launched in Jersey in June 2007 and expanded operations to Guernsey in March 2008. The Red-M coverage survey assessed islandwide coverage of the Airtel-Vodafone mobile network versus the Jersey Telecom and Sure mobile networks for 2G and 3G services. The Red-M results show that for the benchmark threshold for good indoor coverage (signal strength > -81 dBm) for 2G GSM mobile services, Airtel Vodafone's network on average offered 15% better coverage than Jersey Telecom and 14% better than Sure across Jersey. National Coding Week
Natinalniger Coding Week was founded by former headteacher Richard Rolfe and tech entrepreneur Jordan Love, who was appointed EU Code Week Ambassador for the UK. It took place during the week commencing September 21, 2014 with the aim of helping adults to improve their digital literacy in order to fill the growing skills gap. The week is run by volunteers in hubs, libraries, schools, businesses and NGOs with the intention of supporting adults to learn digital skills including coding. Richard Rolfe and Jordan Love were inspired to create the week when they trained a group of unemployed people in coding skills which eventually led to many of them getting jobs. The EU predicts a significant number of digital jobs being unfilled by 2020 due to a skills shortage. Jersey Live Music Festival (alternatively Jersey Live) was a music festival held annually at The Royal Jersey Showground in the parish of Trinity, Jersey between 2004 and 2016. Overview Jersey Live started out as a 4,000-capacity, one-day event in 2004 with music across two stages. The festival took place over two days and grew in size each year, with six stages featuring live music, DJs and as of 2013, comedy and spoken word. Jersey Live had capacity for an attendance of 10,000 people per day, selling out at that capacity for the first time in 2010. The festival was sponsored each year by local telecommunications company JT, who host the JT Stage at the festival.
